What is PRICE?
P – ProtectProtect injured area from further harm by stopping play
R – RestInjured area kept as still as possible with no weight on it
I – IceApply ice wrapped in a clean cloth
C – CompressionLightly wrap the injured area in bandage to stop losing blood
E – ElevationRaise it to a level above the heart to stem blow flow
What is DRABC?
D - DangerTo casualty or first aider
R – ResponseDifferent levels of casualty response – alert / unresponsive / pain
A - AirwayIs there a blockage
B - BreathingListening and feeling if the casualty is breathing
C - Circulationpulse
What is the RECOVERY POSITION?
- Roll the casualty onto their side as shown. Gently tilt their head back to open their airway.
- Monitor the casualty until emergency help arrives.
Purpose:
- It keeps the casualty in a stable position with their airway
- It prevents the casualty's tongue from blocking their airway
- It promotes drainage of fluids, such as blood or vomit, from their mouth
- It keeps the casualty in a safe position if they have to be left alone
- If the casualty was left on their back their tongue could relax and block their airway
What is the difference in OPEN AND CLOSED FRACTURES?
- Open – Skin is broken, probable bleeding
- Closed – Skin unbroken
