WE PLACE PEOPLE MONTHLY INSIGHTS
Topic: Are Your Employees Exceeding Your Expectations?
As the President of We Place People, a leading Staffing, Recruiting and Management Consulting firm, I recently conducted a training session for managers and small business leaders centered around the topic of “how do you grow both top and bottom line results within an organization.”
The first question I asked is, “how many of you are completely happy and thrilled with each and every person that works for your business or department?”“Are they meeting or exceeding your expectations?” Only one person said they were completely satisfied. The second question I asked was, “who are the most important people in your business?” The majority agreed that the most important people in their business are the employees that work directly with their customers. The third question as a response to the previous two questions was, “if the most important people in your organization are those that are customer facing and you are not happy and satisfied with these employees that are working for you or they are not exceeding expectations, how can you grow your business?”
I ask each of you, “what do you do to make your people within the organization feel valued and important?” In a typical business, employees come to work, clock in or report into their supervisor, complete their responsibilities then go homeat the end of their work day. If employees are your greatest asset, you need to make them feel important and valued at each and every level from first line support to top management. Find out what their motivational triggers are so you can adjust and manage each employee the way they need to be managed to get the best results from each individual. You should ask yourself as a leader, “do I have the right people in place that are motivated to succeed and help the organization grow?” Do I have employees who have been properly trained?”
The success of any business starts and ends with the quality of talent we bring into the organization. In today’s competitive workforce, it’s imperative that you hire GREAT talent and don’t just settle for “just a body”. As the saying goes, “sometimes no body is better than the wrong body.” Successful organizations make recruiting a top priority and focus on hiring the best of the best that are a true “fit” … “fit” for your specific organization, a “fit” for the position, and a “fit” for the hiring decision maker. Whether you have an opening or not, your goal with staffing should always be “upgrading” talent. Human capital is your most important asset, so invest wisely. If you have nonperformers, begin to recruit new talent and have a plan in motion to “upgrade” your talent and not be “held hostage” with nonperformers who ultimately are hurting your business rather than helping it grow.
Recruiting and upgrading your existing staff with GREAT talent should be an important focal part of your business. As the saying goes, “A successful business is only as great as it’s people they have working in it.”
Hopefully these tips will help you grow your business while focusing on GREAT talent! Let us know if we can assist you with any recruiting needs or answer any questions.
