US Search Information

1) Is there a list of companies which hired international students, in the U.S. from top U.S. MBA schools?

Yes – A list (2,246 companies) compiled by the following top 22 business schools: Fuqua, Stern, Anderson, Booth, Columbia, Darden Graduate Business School ,Haas, HBS, Johnson, Kellogg, Kenan-Flagler, McCombs, Olin, Owen, Ross, Sloan, Sloan, Tepper, Tuck, Wharton, and Yale School of Management. This list can be found on the “Companies Hiring” page of the CDC portal under “International Recruiting”.Important Note: This list cannot be shared with students that are not studying at the business schools which participated in this data collection.

2) Is there a list of companies which hired MBA students, studying in the U.S., for overseas positions?

Yes – Please refer to the company list above.

3) Is there a list of on-Grounds and posting companies that made offers or hired Darden international students?

5) If my target companies are not on the above lists, is there another source for locating which companiesapplied for H-1B visas?

Yes, there are resources available through the CDC portal that will allow you to search for this information:

  • Going Global (source via Darden VPN) - You can search for companies approved for H-1B visas by company; industry; job title; city and by the most frequent applicants by using Going Global “ H1B Info”.Important note: Please view the type of positions they are hiring, ex. if all H-1B filings are for technical positions, not business positions, this would not be a preferential company to contact.
  • MyVisaJobs.com - Includes listings of postings from companies that sponsored H-1B visas in the past; lists H-1B sponsors by: job title; industry; and occupation.

6) Besides the Darden CMS system for on-Grounds opportunities and postings, how can I search for opportunities specifically open to students without work authorization?

  • UseSY MBA Focus siteand FY MBA Focus siteto search. From the landing page, click on the job file tab, and then use the Advanced Search to constrain on those jobs open to international students.

7) How can I search the Going Global database for opportunities in the U.S. that are MBA specific and seeking candidates with international expertise?

Use the Jobs/Internships tab inGoing Global.Search by “industry” (and country/city/region if preferred),click on Academic Keyword Tool and click on MBA, and put either your region of expertise or international or global in the keyword search.

If you can’t find an overseas alumni or recruiting contact via the Darden CMS, Alumni Database, or LinkedIn, please use the following resource:

Frequently Asked Company Recruiter and Application Questions

Regarding U.S. Work Authorization Information for

International Students

Every year we get questions from students in regards to what to say to employers in regards to their U.S. work authorization. The tricky part is that sometimes there are different answers depending on if you are speaking to a prospective employer or filling out an application. Please see the answers below to frequently asked questions and note any differences between the answers for “conversations” vs. “applications.”If you, or your employer, have any simple, non-legal, questions they want to discuss, please contact Denise Karaoli. Summer Internship Specific:

Q. Are you legally authorized to work in the U.S.?

A. Yes

Q. Do you need company sponsorship for summer employment?

A. No

Q. Will you now, or in the future, require visa sponsorship for work authorization?

A. Yes.F1 students are authorized to work in the summer on CPT and for one year after graduation on OPT. In addition students can work for an additional six years on a H-1B visa without the need for establishing permanent residency.

Q. If you do have the right to work in the U.S. in the summer, is your right to work solely based on your student visa or a visa sponsored by an employer?

A. Student visa

Q. Does the company have to complete any forms or pay any costs for your summer work authorization?

A. No. The company only has to supply the student with a summer internship offer letter which includes the position title, job description and dates of employment.

Full-time Specific:

Q. Are you authorized to work in the U.S. after graduation for permanent employment?

A1. Application - Yes, if you are filling out an application.

A2. Employer Conversation - Yes, if you are talking with an employer and you can state the following:

  • I am authorized to work in the U.S. for up to seven years under the following circumstances:

1)One year after graduation with Optional Practical Training(OPT) without visa sponsorship.

2)Up to six additional years with H-1B visa sponsorship.

  • Important Note: If you had an H-1B in the past 6 years, please make sure your employer knows that you are not subject to the H-1B cap – if verified by your immigration attorney.

Q. Do you require company sponsorship to work in the U.S.?

A1. Application – Yes. (If this is the only questions on the application and you do not have room for explanation (see above) you must report that you do need sponsorship.

A2. Employer Conversation – Not for one year after graduation with Optional Practical Training(OPT).

  • Additionally, I can work up to six additional years with H-1B visa sponsorship.

Q. Will you now or in the future require visa sponsorship for work status authorization?

A. Yes. After your OPT expires you will require an H-1B visa for work authorization.

General Questions from Employers

Q. For an H-1B work visa, does the company have to advertise a position to prove there is no other U.S. candidate available for the position?

A. No. It is not a permanent labor certification.

Q. How long does it take to process an H1B visa?

A. Approximately 15 days with a premium processing filing fee.

Q. Are there any gaps in employment between the OPT and the H-1B?

A. No.

Q. How much does the H1B visa cost the company?

A.Approximately $5,000-$7,000

Q. Can the student process and pay for the H-1B application?

A. No, the company has to process the application and pay the fees.
