"Top 10 Things A Chaperone Had Wished They’d Known Before Coming To Camp”
)I wish I had known to bring a bathmat or extra towels for the floor! There are no mats available, and the kids will most likely end up using YOUR towel to wipe their feet when getting out of the shower. Consider yourself warned.
)I wish I had googled instructions on how to build a cardboard boat! Each room will be responsible for building a cardboard boat on the last full day of camp. And it has to float. With people in it.A little Google search can go a long way!
)I wish I had brought an extra pair of tennis shoes! You are going to need them and they are going to get wet…and STINKY! Maybe even bring a pair from Goodwill that you can toss in the dumpster on your way out of camp!
)I wish I would have brought some decorations to help with team spirit! Everyone got an email stating what color team they would be on. The kids will think you are the BEST if you get in the spirit and decorate your room (or the kids) in your team colors.
)I wish I had known how quickly 5 kids could stink up a room! Two words = Bathroom Spray.
)I wish I had known about that hill! Seriously. You’ve probably heard about it. You still have time, start that cardio now!
)I wish I had brought a backpack or something to carry throughout the week! You will be part counselor/part pack mule. We will provide a fanny pack, but lots of counselors have found it beneficial to bring a small backpack or small drawstring bag to carry things like flashlights, money cards, bibles, or all the “treasures” the kids find a the camp store.
)I wish I had known that caffeinated drinks are always (secretly) available to chaperones! We try to keep any caffeine hidden from the kids, but if you are need a pick me up at snack bar at night, just ask! They are available to purchase for chaperones only. Ssshhhhh.
)I wish I had known how to play "Gaga Pit" and "9 Square in the Air” before I got to camp! And if you still don’t know, no worries. However, it might be helpful to brief yourself with the rules so you can just jump in and play anytime without having to find someone to explain the rules to you!
)I wish I had known how much FUN I was going to have and how awesome it is to see GOD change lives in the matter of a week! This week will be tiring, exhausting, and amazing! We can’t wait to see what God is going to do in the lives of these kids and YOU!
