Meeting Time

  • Wecontinued discussion on a new meeting time (currently 7:45 a.m. on Monday) with everyoneagreeing to consider it further before coming to a final conclusion. Maximum attendance is, of course, the goal with adequate representation among staff and parents alike. The next meeting will be at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, February 1st with successive meetings to be determined.

Boosterthon

  • Boosterthon is currently set up with a Kick-Off date on the afternoon of April 4th. The Fun Run is scheduled for April 13th, but due to testing (which Kathy indicated takes up the major part of April) we’re still trying to determine whether morning or afternoon will work better. A decision will be made as we have more firm information available regarding the testing schedule.

Principal’s Report

  • Kathy said things have been extra busy lately but focus has been on the new security initiatives including a new ‘Buzz In/Buzz Out’ system, new security cameras and the integration of identification badges for all staff.
  • Kathy also mentioned what a meticulous job Brian (our Maintenance Coordinator) is doing managing all of the new projects in addition to security. That includes an AC upgrade, a roofing project, playground issues, etc. A note of interest regarding the removal of the trees from the playground area; this was required due to extensive root systems beginning to interfere with the structural integrity of the Bus Loop. There will be a new cover coming soon to provide the necessary shade for the playground.
  • Kathy was pleased to inform everyone that we have 16 new students registered at Ketterlinus this year! This is a large number relative to the size of KES.
  • Upcoming holidays (days off school) to be aware of include: Monday, January 18th (Martin Luther King Day), Friday, February 5th (Teacher In-Service Day) and Monday and Tuesday, February 15th and 16th (President’s Day and Teacher/Student Holiday).

Staff Appreciation

  • We briefly discussed the upcoming February ‘Staff Appreciation’ event and the varying possible themes for February (Valentine’s Day, Super Bowl, President’s Day, Chinese New Year). Lots of fun possibilities! A decision will be made at the next meeting.

Spirit Nights

  • January 14this our next Spirit Night at Bruster’s in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.. Michelle has graciously offered to dress up in the ‘Lizzie the Dolphin’ costume for the kids for an hour or so. Yay Michelle!! Jenny also mentioned that Christie is working on getting a $1 OFF coupon for the kids for this event.
  • The following Spirit Night will be at Chik-Fil-A on February 4th.

Miscellaneous

  • We discussed the frequency of the new paper version of the “Dolphin Digest”in addition to the Blackboard Alert System as a way to keep parents informed of important dates and events at KES. This will be an ongoing discussion as we determine the most efficient way to distribute information while considering cost and the workload for our staff.
  • Vision Screenings are coming up on February 4th and will last roughly two hours. Michelle will need several volunteers to assist with this. ‘Donuts with Dad’ will also be the same morning and Kathy suggested having some extra donuts and coffee for the Lion’s Club gentlemen who come in to run the Vision Screening. ‘Muffins with Mom’ will follow the next week on February 12th. February will be a busy month at KES!
  • A special welcome to Krystal Carter! Krystal is our new 1st Grade Assistant Teacher to Mrs. Wood and returns to the St. John’s County School System in this capacity. We’re very happy to have you here at Ketterlinus!
