Katherine Brearley Arts Scholarship for 2016-2017

Scholarship(s) totaling $17,500 have been endowed by friends and family in honour of Associate Professor Emerita Katherine Brearley (BA’35, MA’39, Doctorat Universite de Paris) for undergraduate students entering their third or fourth year of study in the Faculty of Arts (Vancouver Campus) for the 2016 Winter session. Qualified students must have achieved a minimum Grade Point Average of 80% in the previous winter session; and, in their current winter session, students must have officially declared a major/honours/combined specialization. In selecting recipients, consideration is given to both scholarly excellence and the demonstrated ability to work with and lead others in student and community activities at the university, local, national and/or international level. The awards are made on the recommendation of a selection committee within the Faculty of Arts.

ELIGIBILITY TO RECEIVE AWARDS

You must be recognized by UBC as a full-time student studying within the Faculty of Arts and registered in a minimum of 24 credits in the 2016 Winter session, or sufficient to graduate, with 27 percentage graded courses in the 2015 Winter session with no failures or incompletes. However, some students (approved via Access and Diversity etc) may be eligible on fewer credits.

OTHER MATERIAL REQUIRED:

·  a resume which includes all activities relating to community involvement with dates (maximum two pages)

·  a personal statement focusing on the ways in which you have demonstrated leadership in student and community activities at the university, local, national and international level. (maximum two pages)

·  two letters of reference from individuals who can comment on your leadership and community involvement (Faculty, TAs, Employers, Managers, or recent High School Teachers) and who would be willing to discuss this, by phone, if requested. Reference letters must arrive in a sealed envelope with signature written across the flap (signifying you have not had access to view the contents) OR by email if pre-approved by contacting
