To the internship host organisation
Dear sir/madam,
Since you contribute to a trainee’s development, you are also asked to assess or evaluate the work placement for a student on behavioral aspects.
For this assessment, we ask you to use the enclosed feedback form. The procedure could be: you fill in the form enclosed, the trainee fills in the trainee’s version of the form and together you can talk about the outcome after 6 weeks of working experience (or half of the placement period) and again at the end of the work placement period. The relevance of the forms, is to discover and plan actions for improvement.
The form gives you a range of performance and behavioral aspects you can “score” from “very good + +” to “needs improvement - -“. These observations give you the opportunity to have a discussion with the trainee about his/her possibilities for development. The comments you make are invaluable to trainees. They need your information to be able to formulate learning goals for themselves.
It’s a difficult job to assess the progress students make. For trainees the work placement is essential to make the link between theory and practice. Maybe even more important, to become aware of their strengths and weaknesses, of the progress in their personal development. They need your feedback in order to see what qualities they have and where opportunities lie to develop both qualities and weaknesses. For us as teachers, tutors or coaches, this form is also important to discuss trainees’ learning developments. In an international context it is even more complicated to measure learning results and to guarantee a quality level that is required in higher education.
We appreciate your time and efforts and tried to keep the evaluation form short and simple. Moreover, your contribution in working with the form, using then in your review with the trainee and commenting on their usefulness, will be highly appreciated. It will give us the opportunity to adapt them, if necessary, for future mobility projects.
