Another Step to Stopping an Incinerator at New Barnfield

Please Send a Response

To Herts County Council’s

New Consultation On Waste Sites

By Monday March 19th 2012

5,759 objections to Veolia’s Planning Application to build a 380,000 tonnes per year waste incinerator at New Barnfield were sent to Herts County Council by Jan 31st 2012. These objections will go to the Development and Control Committee of Herts CC, who will meet probably on June 19th or July 18th, 2012.

People from a wide area have made clear that they do not want a polluting incinerator next to a school and close to homes, visible for miles around Hatfield, creating heavy traffic, and destroying our Green Belt and wild-life.

To Further Increase Our Chances of Stopping this Incinerator

YOU NOW NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER OBJECTION

RESPONSE TO CONSULTATION ON

PRE-SUBMISSION WASTE SITES ALLOCATIONS

PART 1. RESPONDENT’S DETAILS

NAME: ………………………………………………………………………….

ADDRESS:………………………………………………………………………

SIGNATURE:………………………………………………………………………

PART 2

My Representation relates to Allocated Site Number AS048 (map 039) New Barnfield

PART 3

I consider the document to be unsound

PART 4

I consider the document to be unsound because it is not justified

that is, it is not founded on a robust and credible evidence base

and it is not the most appropriate strategy when considered against reasonable alternatives.

PART 5

I consider the document to be unsound because New Barnfield is not a suitable site for waste management

because Waste Management Facilities on this site would cause:-

1. VISUAL INTRUSION

over a school for children with special needs,

homes, public spaces, historic listed sites,

and a very wide area.

2. TRAFFIC NOISE, POLLUTION, CONGESTION AND DANGER

on the access road passing Southfield School,

on South Way and the Travellers Lane roundabout, passing homes,

and at Junctions 2 and 3 of the AIM.

3. LOSS OF GREEN AREAS IN THE GREEN BELT

Also the site is part of the Watling Chase Community Forest

and is covenanted not to be used for any noisy or offensive trade.

4. LOSS OF AMENITIES FOR LOCAL PEOPLE

A Resources Library is there.

Footpaths, a cycle-route, and a Nature-Walk with ponds circle it.

5. DANGER TO HEALTH

The site is immediately next to a school, and very close to homes.

There would be danger to health from traffic and from emissions from a waste facility.

6. LOSS OF PROTECTED WILDLIFE

Wildlife includes rare birds, and legally-protected bats and great-crested newts.
