Subject: Notification of Class A Information and Data Collection Activities for 2011-12

I am writing today to “detail all items of Class A information and data required for the forthcoming academic year.”[1] A formal calendar of surveys and data collections for the 2011-12 academic year is attached and surveys will be distributed via email during the coming year.

In addition, IPEDS collections are required of all institutions that disburse Title IV federal financial aid. Surveys may be accessed through the National Center for Education Statistics website and should be submitted directly to the NCES according to the attached schedule. Please notify the IPEDS Help Desk at 1-877-225-2568 if your institution’s IPEDS keyholder has changed recently. Current contact information is important as keyholder registration will begin in early August.

Please notify MDHE staff as well of any recent changes to contact information for primary institutional data coordinator(s). Changes to contact information or other questions may be directed to:

Damon Ferlazzo(573)

Tim Wittmann(573) 522-2385

For your convenience all data submission information is available on the MDHE website at This includes:

  • the data reporting schedule,
  • an internet calendar (ical) of data submission deadlines for Public and Independent institutions which can be integrated into Outlook or other calendar application, and
  • Current data coordinator contact list
  • current versions of the survey instruments as they become available

MDHE staff greatly appreciates your assistance in the collection and review of federal and state data. MDHE staff is committed to working with institutions to review all data collections as the year progresses, to ensure that data collected are relevant and required to meet the needs of Missouri’s higher education community. I have stated publicly that we will work together to identify, where necessary, “new data collection priorities within the constraints of time and resources”; we will also work together to let go, where possible, of data that no longer meet the state’s needs.

As always, feel free to contact MDHE research staff with any questions or comments. Thank you for your time and assistance with this important work.

Best,

David Russell, Ph.D.
