We have had some beautiful summer weather this year, but it is getting that time when preparations must begin for another exciting ski season. I hope this year brings some great skiing weather, improvements in your skiing and snowboarding expertise, and time to rekindle old friendships and begin new ones. This newsletter is once again being produced to take the place of an informational meeting after school. The purpose of this letter is to welcome new members to the club, to complete registration for the club, and to convey important information about the club and its fundraiser.

ABOUT THE CLUB:

The SVMS Ski Club consists of students in grades 7, 8, and 9. The purpose of the club is to introduce the fine art of skiing/snowboarding to new members, to increase the skill levels of other members, to provide social opportunities for members, and to accomplish these goals in a safe environment.

The club will schedule as many trips as the weather and finances allow. The trips are normally scheduled for either Friday evenings after school or Saturdays from morning until evening. The time schedule for a typical trip would be as follows:

Friday Evening Saturday

3:00 pm - Leave Middle School 7:00 am - Leave Middle School

5:00 PM - Arrive @ Resort 9:30 am - Arrive @ resort

10:00 pm - Leave resort 6:00 PM - Leave resort

11:30 pm - Arrive @ the old King's Rest. 8:00 PM - Arrive @ old King's (if resort is south)

12:00 am - Arrive Middle School 8:30 PM – Arrive @ Middle School

Times are tentative based on our destination.

There will be chaperones on the busses, however, it must be understood that each student will be on his/her own while at the resort. Students will assume responsibility for equipment, conduct, and injuries while skiing. (It is strongly recommended that beginners take a lesson at the reduced group rate) Chaperones will monitor the ski patrol area for injuries and will be notified of any misconduct reported by staff members at the resort.

Cost:

The trips are arranged to take advantage of group discounts offered by various resorts. The tentative prices for the trips are as follows.

Twilight @ Seven Springs All Day @ Holiday Valley

$28.00………………Lift Ticket ………………$54.00

$21/$25………………Rentals ……………… $27/$29

$17.00 ……………….Lessons ………………$30.00

FUNDRAISERS:

In order to help defray the cost of the buses for each trip, the club will conduct a fundraiser for its membership. The number of trips the club takes depends on the amount of money raised by the hoagie sale. This hoagie sale will be conducted from Sept. 23rd- Oct. 6th. The hoagies are an 18” Italian hoagie and are well worth $8.00 cost. Orders and money will be due on Tuesday, October 6th no later than 7:45 AM in room 228 of the Middle School or in the Ski Club envelope inside the Intermediate School office. Members must pick up the hoagies on Thursday, October 8th. Hoagies will be delivered to the Middle School Room 228. Seventh and Eight graders will be called from their eighth period class starting at 2:30. After receiving orders, members will return to class. Ninth Grade students must make arrangements to come to the Middle School Room 228 after school but no later than 3:00 to pick up orders. **********Due to the fact that members are required to sell a minimum of 45 hoagies, it may be wise to have an alternative means of transportation home from school on Thursday, October 8th since the hoagies may be quite bulky.

As in past years, registration for the ski club may also be completed by payment of a nonrefundable fee of $45.00 instead of selling hoagies. (Members must make up the difference if less than 45 hoagies are sold. Ex 18 hoagies sold + member pays $27.00) Please make checks payable to SVMS Ski Club. Payment is due on Tuesday, October 6thfor all those not participating in the hoagie sale. Remember this money pays for the coach buses we take on all trips!!!
