Job Purpose
To lead and manage the development, planning, marketing and delivery of the curriculum area in order to provide relevant, innovative and successful programmes of study to achieve outstanding student success rates. To teach an appropriate caseload within the designated curriculum area.
Key Accountabilities
  1. To lead and manage the team of staff responsible for the development and delivery of programmes of study within the curriculum area

  1. To create an aspirational culture which sets out the highest expectations of staff and students and supports their achievement

  1. To achieve outstanding student success rates and excellent progression/destinations throughout the curriculum area

  1. Actively to develop the designated curriculum area so as to provide attractive programmes of study which anticipate market needs, meet market demand, recruit well and stimulate and sustain student interest

  1. To market the provision and actively recruit students to meet or exceed curriculum area and College targets

  1. To manage, support and inspire teaching teams to provide innovative, exciting and effective teaching, learning and assessment

  1. To promote, model and support active learning strategies which motivate, stretch and challenge students, sustain their interest and develop their creativity, inspiring them to learn and achieve

  1. To ensure that the team employs technology and e-learning strategies to provide 24/7 access to learning materials, develop student skills and support their learning

  1. To ensure that the curriculum and teaching and learning strategies develop wider core skills, including English,maths, communication, problem solving and team working

  1. To work with the Learning Mentor(s)attached to the curriculum area, using data as appropriate, to set challenging student targets and to monitor and track student progress

  1. To support the Head of Technology, Learning Resources and E-Learning in implementing the College e-learning strategy

  1. To make full use of data to raise individual staff and team performance

  1. To manage team performance through regular reviews and annual appraisal, recommending, supporting and leading professional development as appropriate

  1. To lead the implementation of quality assurance procedures within the curriculum area, including the production of the annual self-assessment report and action plan, to raise standards and effect continuous improvement

  1. To assist with budget forecasting and to manage and deploy human and physical resources effectively and within budget profiles

  1. To ensure efficient and effective course administration within the designated curriculum area, liaising with cross-college services and awarding organisations as appropriate

  1. To keep up to date with best practice in pedagogy and curriculum in the designated area and actively to collaborate with partners inside and outside of the College to benefit students and staff

  1. To teach an appropriate caseload within the designated curriculum area[1]

  1. To undertake all aspects of the post in accordance with the College’s Equality and Diversity,Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and schemes

Experience in supporting the implementation of quality assurance procedures, including self-assessment / E / I
