TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

INDEPENDENT ASSIGNMENT

DUE DATE: Friday December 14, 2012

TITLE PAGE

Your project must have a title page with the following information on it: your name, your period, the date of submission, and the title of the assignment and the teacher’s name.

The project will be five pages in total (including the title page). It should consist of the following.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (page 1)

Explain the significance of the following quote in one paragraph . Use the proper paragraph format.

Atticus said to Jem: I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know

you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you

can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”

THINKING AND INQUIRY (page 2)

Choose a significant quote from the novel and explain its importance to the theme(s) of the novel. Write the quote out first and then write your explanation in the proper paragraph format. One paragraph only.

COMMUNICATION (page 3)

Write a lyric (song) or poem that deals with a theme of the novel. Your audience of this poem is someone who has already read the novel. Check the definition of poetry and/or lyrics.

APPLICATION (page 4)

Create an artistic representation of the novel. On your cover you must include the title of the novel and the author’s name. You may also include one of the statements from the critics that you get from your own copy of the novel. In the artistic representation, try to capture one or more of the themes that relate to the novel.

You will be given several opportunities during class time to complete the tasks listed above. A portion of your grade will be assessed based upon your ability to use class time effectively and appropriately.
