MINES (Making Innovations in Engineering and Sciences) – Camp for Young Women: July 27 – August 2 at Montana Tech in Butte. It will be limited to 40 young women who will be entering their sophomore or juniors in high school in the fall of 2014. The intent of the camp is to expose young women to many areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields and encouraging them to choose a STEM major when they go to college. Participants will do field and lab work in fields of Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Metallurgical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. Please see the initial schedule and outline of costs and scholarships at Participants will also visit hot springs, explore caverns, and spend time by the lake fishing and hiking, as well as self-defense, pink glove boxing and yoga. Application deadline is May 1.

Montana Natural Resources Youth Camp: July 13 – 18 at Lubrecht Experimental Forest, Missoula.

Stay in rustic cabins learning about our natural resources and their management, and making lasting friendships. It offers activity packed days with hands-on instruction and great food. Participants must be age 14-18 and have completed 8th grade. Local Conservation District may provide scholarship support. Applications forms are available on line at Deadline: June 15.

Conservation Leadership School: Enjoy an overnight camping trip, discover exciting careers in the outdoors, and explore Montana’s working landscapes with local leaders in the Blackfoot Watershed. This program is available to RETURN CAMPERS of the Natural Resources Youth Camp. (see above)

Students may apply for afour week experience to work outdoors, work with others on small teams, and earn $200 toward postsecondary training. Application can be downloaded at or call 1.866.JOIN MCC. The sooner you apply, the better your change of being accepted.

NEXUS: All students who have not yet turned 18 are encouraged to apply for a NEXUS card, which is a trusted traveler program which allows pre-screened travelers to travel to and from Canada. Applicants submit one application online via the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES). The main benefit of the card over a passport is the difference in cost. The cost of the NEXUS card is $50 for adults but there is NO fee for persons under 18.
