“to god be the glory”

John 9:1–12

All praise, glory, and honor is due to the Living God and to His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. GLORY is adoration, admiration, grandeur, splendor, and magnificence. Truth of the matter, God has created you and me for His glory. ______

Someone once said, “Hearing a hundred times is not as good as seeing once.” This morning, let us examine the Word and Work of Jesus Christ, and the Power and Glory of Almighty God. ______

  • The Bible teaches that one of the signs of the coming Messiah is that He would heal the blind. There are two kinds of blindness in our story. One is of the man who was born with a physical defect of blindness. The Second is of the religious folk who had a spiritual defect and were spiritually blind. ______

  • The Word of God confirms that God is sovereign and that He can do whatever He wants, to whomever He wants, whenever He wants. In the Gospel of John,God continues to manifest Himself through the works of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. ______

The Relevant Question“What defines the glory of God?”

1 – THE ______[v1]

  • They saw the man sitting there, a helpless, hopeless, powerless beggar. Was his blindness a result of his own sins, or his parents’ sins? From the beginning of time, people have been trying to understand why bad things happenwhich cause suffering in this world. ______

  • The Good News about this story is that Jesus immediately clears this up for us by saying that this has nothing to do with some sin in this man’s life or his parents’. ______

  • The man’s blindness is a backdrop for a blessing. Specifically, the man was born blind so that the power and the glory of God could be seen though him. ______

2 – the ______[v6]

  • Jesus spits on the ground, makes mud from the spittle (saliva) and puts it on the man’s eyes. Interestingly, man is made from this same substance,the clay or dust of the earth. ______

  • Would you let someone spit on you? ______

  • Like the invalid man at the Pool of Bethesda, Jesus has again chosen a Sabbath day and the Pharisees are outraged that Jesus insists on working on the day of rest. ______

3 – the ______[v7]

  • Jesus, the Sent One, sent the man to the Pool of the Sent One (or Siloam). ______

  • The man’s obedient response brought restoration of sight. ______

______

  • If he was the same man, how was this possible? The man gave a simple and factual account of how his restoration of sight occurred. ______
