.

Ontario’s Premier and MPPs in his Cabinet have the power to end the clawback of the National Child Benefit Supplement from families on social assistance. Ordinary MPPs can also influence their cabinet colleagues. If the Provincial Government knows a lot of people want change, they are more likely to take action. Even a few letters or phone calls can have an impact.

To find out who your MPP is, call Elections Ontario toll-free: 1-800-677-8683 or go to http://www.gov.on.ca/MBS/english/common/contact.html#con

If any of the following ministers is your MPP, attempt to arrange a meeting through his/her constituency office. Otherwise, contact the minister at his/her office at the Ontario Legislature. Let the Income Security Advocacy Centre know if you are able to get a meeting. We can help you prepare. Contact Janine Pynn via email: or by calling toll-free: 1-866-245-4072, ext. 5154.

If you aren’t able to get a meeting, write a letter to your own MPP and any of the cabinet ministers below. In your letter, say that you are writing about the NCBS clawback. Talk about how it affects you personally, or why you’re concerned. Tell them to immediately end the clawback of the National Child Benefit Supplement from families on social assistance and find other funding to continue programs for poor families. Tell them you expect to hear back from them by a specific date. Give your name and address.

If you don’t want to write a letter, simply call!
