August Meeting Minutes

  1. July meeting minutes were approved
  1. Treasurer’s Report

Transactions have been heavy over the last month, therefore a treasurer’s report will be presented next month.

  1. Outreach
  2. Outreach committee is meeting today. The government sub-committee headed by Pat Justice is working on a mission statement and have been narrowing down their focus. A letter was issued to government official informing them of the Alberici tour and we have received some positive response and are expecting several government officials in attendance. The subcommittee is going to suggest that all new buildings strive for silver certification. St. Louis city government is the main target, but other smaller municipality relationships should be fostered.
  1. Brownfield’s conference is upcoming and is free which will accommodate those that can’t attend the Alberici tour.
  1. Labs 21 is also upcoming and a mailing went out to publicize the event. The idea of holding a USGBC session at the conference to introduce attendees to the local chapter and the USGBC organization was discussed and Punit would need some help organizing and creating an agenda. The committee agreed and Punit will move forward.
  1. LEED CI and EB technical review will be opened up to non-members next week. It is unclear how much background of USGBC and LEED will be given, but we should try and get the word out in an effort to populate the workshop with people that should be aware of this.
  1. Earthday Symposium. The local chapter will not be as involved as it has in years past. We will not be hosting a products expo and this should reduce our involvement.
  1. Programs
  2. IFMA will be hosting the Vivian Loftness program along with AIA and USGBC. The auditorium will hold approx. 100 people and we should be expecting a large crowd. Networking will start at 5:00 and program will begin promptly at 6:00.
  1. CSI has approached the USGBC to co-sponsor the specifying green materials. More information to come.
  1. Communications
  1. The ad campaign is moving forward. There have been some graphics issues that are being ironed out.
  1. Alberici is the project that has been chosen for the ad campaign, but we will approach national to allow more than one case study.
  1. Membership
  1. In an effort to hold the elections in December, on track with national, we would have sixty days to solicit nominations. December program could be a social event to hold the elections. MAL, Deb, Deb will form a sub-committee to organize December elections.
  1. USGBC National
  2. MAL and Pat Justice will be attending the Advocacy training in September in Atlanta.
  3. Joanne will attend media training in September in LA
  4. DNR and Ameren are interested in studying whether it would be financially beneficial for them to endorse LEED registered buildings by providing incentives. The committee discussed suggesting to them that they subsidize alternative energy in an effort to promote green buildings. The concern being that LEED incentives might entangle or influence the end result. Ameren has approached us to conduct a survey to find out the level of interest.
  1. Next meeting will be September 23rd at Earthways home.
