JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERALL JOB FUNCTION

Key Task / Performance Standards
1. / To provide a high quality service to residents.

Key Task

/ To develop and update individual support/care plans in accordance with the requirements of the RQIA standards and Clanmil Procedure.
To ensure that all staff adhere to the individual support and care plans.
To ensure that statutory regulations and ISO Procedures are strictly adhered to in the ordering, storing, administration and disposal of medications.

Performance Standards

/ To include all required documentation.
To promote independence and encourage decision making for all residents.
To provide a high standard of personal care to residents enabling all core values to be achieved.
To promote positive and active ageing for residents and to organise and facilitate activities and to record these.
To comply with the Association’s polices as laid down in the Association’s manuals and other guidance material as appropriate.
To liaise with outside agencies involved with individual residents.
To prepare reports and attend care review meetings.
To attend senior staff and full staff meetings.
To minute and transfer minutes to T: Drive.
To work in other Housing with Care Homes, as required.
2. /

To supervise staff within the Home.

Key Task / To supervise all staff within the home completing supervision reports and appraisals as required.
To schedule and chair team meetings.
To report any relevant staffing issues to the Home Manager.
To take a lead in inducting new staff and complete the Induction checklist accurately..
Performance Standards
/ To adhere to all policies and procedures as set out for the good running of the home.
/ To ensure that a neutral working environment is maintained at all times.
3. /

To ensure that the home is adequately staffed at all times.

/ To be a role model in terms of exemplary work in care and good practice and to work positively as part of a team.
To provide night time duty sleep in as required.
To deputise for the Home Manager as required.
To cover for Senior Carer, in their absence.
4. /

To promote communication within the Association and represent the Association externally

/ To develop knowledge and provide information to staff/residents and family, of local amenities and services which would benefit residents.
To promote the home and its reputation in the locality .
To ensure a professional and caring attitude.
To work with the staff in the adjacent independent living scheme to arrange joint activities.
5. / To contribute to the administration of the Housing with Care home.
Key Task / To complete monthly financial returns.
To complete risk assessments.
To Report Notifiable Incidents in accordance with procedure.
To arrange fundraising activities.

Performance Standards

To set out rotas for the home
To advice relevant departments by e mail concerning the commencement and termination of residency
To complete and record weekly specific senior duty sheets
Attend meetings as directed by the Director of Housing and to prepare reports, organise presentations and take minutes as appropriate.
Ensure all records are maintained in accordance with quality system requirements, data protection legislation and that confidentiality of records is maintained at all times.
/ Ensure the smooth running of the Housing Department providing cover and assistance to other staff as required.

To adhere to the policies and procedures of the Association with attention to the Section 75 Equality Scheme duties.

Key Task / Ensure adherence to the Association’s Financial Regulations and procedures.

Adhere to the Association’s quality systems following procedures laid down in manuals and other guidance as appropriate.
Ensure adherence to the requirements of the Data Protection Legislation.
Performance Standards
Ensure confidentiality of information both written and verbal.
Adhere to the Association’s Health and Safety policy and procedures to assist in ensuring a safe working environment is maintained. Completing risk assessments as identified.

To adhere to and administer all internal standards within the Association.

/ Ensure all phone calls are answered if possible or followed up after the call has been missed.
Ensure all enquiries are dealt with promptly and accurately.
Maintain up to date information around questions about the service the home provides, weekly charges etc.
/ To register and respond to complaints in accordance with the Association’s policy.
8. /

To operate all office equipment efficiently.

/ Ensure efficient use of all equipment with minimum wastage.
To ensure all equipment is used with appropriate care.
Report any faults to repairs by email setting realistic response times
Seek assistance from appropriate members of staff in the event of problems arising with equipment.
9. /

To take on additional specific areas of work as required by the Home Manager or by a Senior Manager.

/ To ensure work is carried out in accordance with instructions and deadlines are consistently met.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Job Title: Senior Carer

FACTOR

/ ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS / DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

/ NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent AND a minimum of 2 years experience working in a care/support environment.
Exceptional candidates with 5 years experience, without an NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care, should also apply / NVQ 3 in Care or working towards award

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

/ Demonstrate experience creating and maintaining care and support plans.
Experience of staff supervision in the workplace.
Be able to verbally communicate in the English language with the client group.
Be registered or be prepared to register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council at the time of taking up an offer of employment.
Be prepared to provide cover at our sister Housing With Care home, De La Cour House, Woodcot Avenue, Belfast / Experience in leading and motivating a team.
Experience in administration of medication.
Have basic computer/IT skills including knowledge of email and word processing
Experience in Dementia Care

SKILLS / ABILITIES

/ Ability to liaise with residents, family members, other professionals, contractors and members of the public.
