QUOTE

“(Revelation) has served to inform…that God is sovereign and that his eternal plan for the human race will in fact be carried through…The end of all things has been laid bare before the readers of Revelation. All uncertainty regarding the eschaton has been removed.”

Robert Mounce, NICNT

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ (is) about Jesus Christ. The book is about him. Any interpretation of the book that does not lead us to his feet is simply off the mark. The whole point is to engender an encounter with him.”

Darrell Johnson, Discipleship on the Edge

Questions for the Heart and Spirit

  1. “Prophecy is known by what it does: true prophecy moves people to serve the true God and false prophecy draws people away from God” (Craig Koester). How does this quote put the “mysteries” of Revelation in the proper prospective? How can this quote help you to discern Truth in these times of so many “truths”?
  2. Why is end time speculation so popular and yet growing in faith is often not?
  3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate Bridgeway in our motto of “Moving You Closer to Christ”? Are you fulfilling your end of the deal? Do you need to change something?

Questions for the Mind:

  • READ: Rev 22:7-21, Rev 1 - List the many similarities between these two chapters. Why do you think God would start and end Revelation like this?
  • READ: Rev 22:12-13,16; Col 1:15; 2 Peter 1:19; Isaiah 11:1 - How does Jesus identify himself? What does each title emphasize? How would a Jewish person relate to these claims? Is there any doubt regarding Jesus’ credentials?
  • READ: Rev 22:7,12,20; 1 Thes 4:17; 2 Peter 3:8-18 - How could Jesus be coming soon when it has been nearly two millennia after this was written? Look up the Greek word for “soon” (tachos) What insight does this give? How are we supposed to be living? What does Rev 22:12 say Christ brings?
  • READ: Rev 22: 18-19; Deut 4:2, 12:32, Prov 30:6; Gal 1:6-9 - How are we to take these warnings? How does one add to the Bible? Can you think of any examples of individuals/groups that have done this? Why is it so critical to maintain the integrity of scripture? How do we know this has been done in the bibles we read today?

Application:

  1. At the beginning of studying Revelation, Lance asked that you read through the whole book several times. Read through it once again. Write a theme sentence that summarizes the book. Memorize it and discuss with your study group.
  2. Rev 22:20 gives us the last thing Jesus said in His word- the last promise. Are you ready to respond as John did? The last prayer of the Bible is also the promise to every believer -Amen, Come Lord Jesus!
