Subject : Reminders for Emergency Drills on February 24, Tuesday

As has been previously announced to the Loyola Schools community, we will be conducting emergency drills on February 24, Tuesday. The drills are composed of shelter in place, earthquake, fire, and campus shut down drills. The first set of drills composed of shelter in place and earthquake drills will take place any time between 8:00 AM and 12:00 noon on that day. The second set of drills composed of fire and campus shut down drills will happen any time between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

May we request your full cooperation and participation in this exercise? Faculty members and heads of offices are requested to go through the drill procedures with their classes/staff. On the day of the drills, faculty members and heads of offices will be required to submit a complete headcount and missing persons report care of the Building Emergency Assistance Team (BEAT) Captain assigned to their respective buildings at the end of the drills. Everyone is expected to participate fully in this exercise until its conclusion.

In case you were not able to read the February 11 memo regarding these drills, here are the points faculty members and office heads must note:

·  Two drills have been added this year: the shelter in place and campus shut down drills.

·  First category of drills: SHELTER IN PLACE drill back-to-back with EARTHQUAKE DRILL
SHELTER IN PLACE DRILL (for situations where is imminent threat to one’s safety): An announcement over the Public Address (PA) System will signal the start of this drill. Those who are indoors will be asked to close all doors, windows, and window blinds of their rooms, turn off all lights, and seek cover. Those outdoors will be asked to go to a safe and secure place. Remain under cover until another announcement signals the end of this drill.
EARTHQUAKE EVACUATION DRILL: The first siren, similar to a ship’s distress call and simulating an earthquake, will signal everyone to do the Duck, cover and Hold procedure. Once the siren is sounded, everyone will proceed with the evacuation and headcount procedure at the assigned Evacuation Assembly Areas. Everyone will be asked to return to their rooms/offices after the earthquake drill.

·  Second category of drills: FIRE DRILL back-to-back with CAMPUS SHUT DOWN DRILL
FIRE EVACUATION DRILL: The fire alarm will be sounded to signal the start of the fire drill. Everyone will proceed with the evacuation and headcount procedure at the assigned Evacuation Assembly Areas. Everyone will be asked to remain in the Evacuation Assembly Areas until the signal for the Campus Shut Down procedure is given through the Public Address System.
CAMPUS SHUT DOWN EVACUATION DRILL (in situations where there is a need to evacuate the whole campus): An announcement over the Public Address (PA) System will signal the start of this drill. Everyone will be asked to proceed to the Baseball Field near Gate 3 to simulate a fast and orderly evacuation of the campus. (**Note: In actual situations, everyone will follow the Fire Evacuation Drill procedure before leaving the campus, i.e. everyone proceeds to their respective Evacuation Assembly Areas where the headcount procedure is performed. Everyone in the Loyola Schools will leaves the campus on foot and will not be allowed to bring out their vehicles.)

·  A test run of the Ateneo Infoboard SMS notification system will be conducted in connection with the emergency drills. Please stand by for notifications which will be sent to your mobile phones. If you have not yet registered for the Ateneo Infoboard service, please contact the Office of Human Resources Management and Organizational Development.

Aside from boosting our preparedness for any actual emergencies, our annual emergency drills are an important quality assurance requirement. Each year, we are evaluated by the Quezon City Fire Department on the orderliness and speed of our evacuation, search, and rescue operations. In view of this, your cooperation, leadership, and vigilance during the emergency drills are essential.

Thank you very much.
