Dear Sir/Madam

Our records show that you are a childcare setting benefitting from the Department of Health’s Nursery Milk Scheme for the under 5s and that you are currently having your milk delivered by Cool Milk.

The funding for the Nursery Milk Scheme is managed on behalf of the Department of Health by the Nursery Milk Reimbursement Unit, with whom all childcare settings must be registered in order to benefit from the scheme (see 26th September, the company operating the Nursery MilkReimbursement Unit will change and all childcare settings who wish to continue receiving free nursery milk will need to re-register with the scheme.

Rules of the Nursery Milk Scheme

To qualify for free milk from the Nursery Milk Scheme a child must be aged under 5 and attend a childcare setting recognised by Ofsted (in England), the Care Inspectorate (in Scotland) or the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales, for at least two hours on any day for which reimbursement is claimed.

Re-registering with the Nursery Milk Reimbursement Unit

Childcare settings must be registered with the Nursery Milk Reimbursement Unit in order for the Department of Health to pay for milk supplied under the Nursery Milk Scheme. To re-register settings will need to go online to after 26th September2016 and enter their details into the online registration form.

Settings re-registering with the Nursery Milk Reimbursement Unit will need to know their unique identification number, referred to as the NMRU number, and the name of their milk agent. The NMRU number for your setting is shown in the covering email from Cool Milk.

Once successfully re-registered, settings will be able to claim for milk supplied to children up to 6 months before the date of claiming as long as no claim has already been paid for that period.

What will happen when I re-register?

Following re-registration you will be emailed a new NMRU number. During re-registration, you will be asked to set a password for managing your account. It is essential that you keep this secure and do not share it with others as you are legally responsible for all nursery milk claimed on behalf of children in your care.

What will I need to do after registration?

Once you have re-registered, your milk agent will be able to claim the costs of nursery milk delivered to your setting from the Nursery Milk Scheme. In order for your agents’ claim to be paid, it is essential that you log on to regularly to input details of the number of under-5s who are actually attending your setting and receiving milk. You should do this at least once a month but we would encourage you to add your attendance data weekly. We will pay your milk agent for the milk after their claim has been validated against your attendance data.
