STATUS OF THE POST

This is a senior post within the school’s revised structure which carries with it membership of the Leadership Team. The postholder is accountable to the Headteacher.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST

As Inclusion Manager and member of Senior Leadership Team the postholder will work with the Headteacher and Governing body to determine the strategic development of SEND policy and provision in the school. Their work will be focussed upon leading teaching & learning for all children with SEND and AEN - using their professional skills & judgement to lead, manage & develop all aspects of SEND / AEN provision, including leading and managing staff teams to ensure excellent outcomes for SEND / AEN children. In addition, the postholder will be instrumental in the Leadership Team in using school data and assessment evidence to aid whole school self evaluation and improvement, having a positive impact upon the educational progress of all pupils in the school. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The postholder will be required to carry out in a professional manner the duties set out below:

Leadership & management

·  Membership of Senior Leadership Team

·  Contribute to school self evaluation

·  Day to day operation of Inclusion policy

·  Co-ordinate provision for children with SEND

·  Identify needs, assess & review progress of individuals and groups

·  Take on role of lead professional for other vulnerable groups such as: Gifted and Talented, EAL and Children in Care

·  Liaise with early years providers, other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals and independent or voluntary bodies

·  Be a key point of contact with external agencies

·  Liaise with potential next providers of education to ensure children with SEND and their parents are informed about options and a smooth transition is planned

·  Collect & interpret assessment data relating to SEND/AEN and vulnerable groups to contribute to school improvement planning based upon evaluation of data

·  Establish links with Inclusion Governor and inform Governing Body about Inclusion in school

·  Set targets for SEND pupils (individuals & groups) based upon standards achieved following monitoring & gap analysis

·  Ensure that the school keeps records of all children with SEND up to date

·  Produce an action plan for Inclusion to inform SIP

·  Lead training and development of all specialist TAs linked to Inclusion, and leading teachers and class based TAs in inclusive practices.

·  Show, by personal example, how to enhance & differentiate the curriculum to ensure Quality First Teaching

·  Advise on the deployment of the school’s delegated budget and other resources to meet pupils’ needs effectively

·  Work effectively with parents of children with SEND and managing systems to keep parents well informed about their child’s progress

·  Work with the Headteacher and Governors to meet responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements

Teaching & learning

·  Identify & adopt the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with SEND

·  Teach groups of children on specialist programmes as required

·  Monitor teaching & learning activities (in classes & specialist groups) to meet the needs of pupils with SEND/AEN, giving feedback & taking appropriate action to ensure best practice

·  Disseminate good practice in SEND across the school

·  Monitor & review plans focussing on differentiation & provision for SEND/AEN children in line with school policies

·  Review & update schemes of work & guidelines as required working with other curriculum leaders in an advisory capacity

·  Ensure that appropriate targets exist for individual pupils in every class & groups having specialist support

·  Ensure that robust assessment systems are in place to track children’s progress towards their targets

·  Work with other schools to ensure continuity of support & learning when transferring pupils with SEND/AEN

Leading & enhancing the teaching practices of others

·  Act as Performance Management Team leader

·  Act as consultant, advisor & coach to other staff – ensuring that all staff recognise & fulfil their statutory responsibilities to pupils with SEND and the inclusive ethos of the school

·  Monitor the quality of support provided by class & specialist TAs & sharing judgements with HT, teachers & support staff as appropriate

·  Identify & act upon key professional development needs & providing high quality INSET / training as required for all staff

·  Help in the induction process of new staff members in relation to the subject

·  Maintain up to date knowledge of philosophy, teaching methods, resources & statutory requirements by liaising with outside agencies, advisory services, attending training etc. Report & discuss outcomes with staff
