JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: TOWN CO-ORDINATOR

Grade: SCP25 £22,212 (pro rata)

Hours: 18.5 (Flexible to include weekends and evening work )

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2018.

Responsible to: Town Clerk

Responsible for:Contractors - Market Co-Ordinator, Market set up etc

Budget responsibilities: Project budget

The post holder will be responsible for promoting and marketing the townof Faringdon to support the vibrancy of the town. This will includepromoting Faringdon as a place to live, work, visit and invest. The role willsupport the delivery of the council’s market town action plan forFaringdon. This involves working closely with a variety of partners acrossthe town. The post holder will be employed by Faringdon Town Council and will liaise with the Information Centre Staff and the Youth and Community Officer to achieve objectives,The post holder will be required to report on a regular basis to VWHDC Economic development Team and Faringdon Town Team.

1.Main Duties:

  • To assist in the promotion of economic development in Faringdon, including delivering the market town action plan for Faringdon
  • To prepare, deliver and monitor a strategyto deliver projects set out in the Action Plan
  • To organise events and professional marketing initiatives in order to increase the footfall and retail sales in the town
  • To maximise the visitor economy and promote Faringdon as a destination through local websites enhancing the content of the sites for residents and visitors
  • To liaise with coach companies to promote Faringdon as a destination
  • To promote the use of the town’s branding
  • To assist with the production of the town’s publications and itineraries
  • To ensure that the first impressions of the towns are positive and information is adequately available in terms of parking, navigation and access to the town
  • To support and encourage town initiatives and projects
  • To build relationships between retailers and the town team and seek sponsorship
  • To develop opportunities for the town to learn from other areas orwork with other market towns in Oxfordshire where there arecommonalities
  • To identify funding opportunities for the towns and assist others to access funding for projects that bring people into the town centre
  • To establish and promote links with local media.
  • To administer and promote the Town Loyalty Card.
  • To manage and promote Faringdon Saturday Market. To promote Tuesday and Friday Markets.
  • To maintain an active social media presence for Faringdon
  • To attend training courses associated with the work and role asrequired by the Town Clerk
  • To undertake specific projects, as and when required
  • To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time commensurate with the level of the post and in particular, to provide cover for other office staff

Your essential skills, knowledge and experience

  • experience in economic development, or other relevant experience

understanding of partnership working

good negotiating and influencing skills

good organisational skills

experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook (email and calendar),Word, Excel and Powerpoint

experience with the use of social media and the internet, in particularchannels such asTwitter and Facebook

ability to employ a range of traditional, social and digital communication methods

Your essential qualifications

‘A’ level education or equivalent qualifications, or relevant experience

business and/or retail, marketing experience

full driving licence and access to a car insured for business use

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it’s a bonus

knowledge and understanding of local government and its services

project management skills

familiarity with web updating systems

experience of promotional activities, event management, financial management and publicity

business and/or retail, marketing qualification

qualification relevant to economic development/tourism/town centre management
