I grew up in Mexico City and moved to the United States in 1980. I received my B.A. in Psychology and M.Ed. in education from the University of Minnesota. After graduating, I taught High School for 13 years and a Community College for 4 years. I had the opportunity to take a group of high school students to Spain on 3 different occasions and it was a wonderful experience. I have also traveled South America on a back-packing trip and Italy on my honeymoon. I obtained my School Counseling degree from Dallas Baptist University and this is my second year as a school counselor and first year here at Thomas Jefferson High School. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and 6 year old son. I also enjoy yoga, reading a good book and/or cooking. I enjoy being involved in helping students find what inspires them and reach their potential.

Alexia Planks (A-D)

Alexia Planks has worked in the field of education for over 8 years. Ms. Planks took the transfer student route into college after earning her Associates Degree from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California. As a young single mother she challenged herself and completed her Bachelors in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach. While working in the Teen Pregnancy Support programs through the Department of Social Services, Ms. Planks recognized the need for stronger support within the school system and would join her team of School Counselors completing her Master’s in Education from National University. Migrating to Texas, Ms. Planks would receive her Teaching Certification in Special Education; working at-risk students through intervention programs such as Read Right and Voyager Expanded Learning. Today, Ms. Planks enjoys motivating students to see they too can have the ability to overcome any challenge creating an amazing future.

Keitcha Jones (E-LOP)

Keitcha Jones has been an educator for 15 years. This is her second year here at Thomas Jefferson. She received her Master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in Counseling and Development in 2007. She has 3 wonderful children. A daughter in high school age (15), two sons ages (22) and (4).Her passion for becominga counselor was so that she could be able to guide students to make choices above and beyond whatever they believed they could achieve. “It has been an amazing experience challenging students to think about their futures and helping them learn how to setcareer goals.”

Ella Milosavljevic (Loz-Res)

Ella Milosavljevic (Milos) is in her first year with Thomas Jefferson HS, but has an extensive experience in school counseling for the past 14 years. Prior to that Ella has taught German language and culture at the University of Findlay and Bowling Green HS. She has received her Master’s degree in Counseling from Andrews University, MI andMaster’s degreein teaching from Bowling Green State University, OH.Ella and her husband have raised three wonderful children who are following in their parents footsteps by working as HS teachers and HS assistant principals. Whenever time permits Ella loves to spend time with her family, especially her six grandchildren.

Shanda Riley (Title 1 Counselor)

Ms. Shanda Riley is a native of Southern California and has resided in Texas since 1997. Ms. Riley has been in education for 9 years, 2 years as an elementary school teacher and 7 years as a school counselor. Ms. Riley holds certifications for Classroom Teacher Generalist EC-4, Classroom Teacher Generalist 4-8, and School Counselor EC-12. Prior to entering the field of education, Ms. Riley was a Social Worker for 9 years. Ms. Riley received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles, and her Masters in Social Work from California State University Long Beach. Ms. Riley is a proud mother of two sons, Steven (23 Years old) and Christian (10 years old). This is Ms. Riley’s first year at Thomas Jefferson High School and she enjoys being a part of a fantastic school, and helping students reach their goals and make strides toward their dreams.
