TITLE: UMF Children’s Programs Teacher/Director
REPORTS TO: Associate Provost and Dean of Education
SUPERVISES: Professional Staff- 3 full-time classroom teachers
Classified Staff- 1 assistant teacher
Student Staff- UMF ECH/ECS Practicum students and student interns

PRIMARY PURPOSES OF THE POSITION: The teacher/director is responsible for leadership in the overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of part-day and full-day developmentally appropriatechildren’s programs for children ages three through eight. He/she also teaches three mornings a week in the half-day program during the UMF academic year.
MAJOR DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Teaches 3 mornings a week in the half-day program.
- Provides overall leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of developmentally appropriate curriculum, ensuring high quality and innovative programming.
- Works collaboratively with other staff members in assessment, case review, and other necessary documentation for students enrolled in the children’s programs.
- Maintains an accredited lab setting which involves early childhood majors in high-quality, relevant professional activities.
- Understands the importance of and maintains standards for NAEYC accreditation.
- Oversees the daily administration and record-keeping needed in children’s programming, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, licensing, and policies.
- Oversees the co-ordination of field work, practica, internships, and other laboratory learning experiences for students.
- Assures appropriate in-service training and staff development opportunities for staff
- Mentors, supervises, and evaluates staff, motivating staff to high levels of performance.
- Manages overall enrollment procedures; projections, admission processes, public contacts, written intake policies and forms, orientations, and staffing plans to reflect enrollment patterns.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable current codes and regulations as they relate to the delivery of early childhood/school-age program services and of policies and procedures that meet state/local regulations and professional standards pertaining to the health and safety of young children
- Participates in budgeting, billing, and fiscal management as appropriate.
- Assures appropriate parent involvement through implementation of programs, activities, and communication that respect and include all families.
- Implements appropriate program evaluation for all relevant components ranging from curriculum to assessment of children’s progress.
- Maintains a close working relationship with the UMF Early Childhood faculty member designated as the program liaison.
- Engages in reflective practice and professional development to maintain and enhance director/teacher skills and knowledge.
- Works closely with CDS and Head Start to ensure inclusive programming.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education; significant experience as a preschool teacher, preferably in a NAEYC accredited program; successful administrative and supervisory experience; familiarity with expectations and performance in a laboratory setting.
- Proven excellent leadership, organizational, supervisory, planning, program development, interpersonal, budgeting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work well with multiple constituencies: children, families, staff, agencies, faculty, college students, and community members.
- Commitment to the provision of high quality educational experiences and care for children in half-day and full-day settings.
- Demonstration of competence in the design, development, and management of programs relevant to the optimal educational, physical, and psychosocial development of children.
Preferred
- Experience working in higher education.
