StudentAffairsAssistantshipssupportthegraduateprogram’smissiontoprovideexposuretothebroadareasthatmakeupstudentlifeoncollegeanduniversitycampuses.Theassistantships allowstudentstolearnthevariousskillssetsthatmaybeneededtosupportco-curricular functionsthatrangefromdiversitytoresidentialissuestocareerdevelopmenttohealth initiatives.StudentAffairsAssistantshipsaredifferentthanGraduateAssistantships,inwhich studentsassistfacultymembersininstructionalorclassroomactivities.Graduatestudents selectedforStudentAffairsAssistantshipsdonotperforminstructionalactivities,donotprovideclassroomsupport,anddonotactastutors.TolearnaboutStudentAffairsAssistantships contacttheappropriateacademicdepartment.
II.DIVISIONOFSTUDENTAFFAIRS
TheDivisionofStudentAffairsatSanDiegoStateUniversity,asapartnerintheeducationalenterprise, contributestothesuccessofourstudents.Throughourservices,programsandactivities,theintellectual, vocational,physical,personal,socialandculturaldevelopmentofallstudentsisencouraged.Ourability toeducatethe“wholeperson”andprovidequalitystudentservicesallowsustobuildalliancesforstudents inandoutoftheclassroom.TheDivisionofStudentAffairs,serves,advises,andconsultswithcampus administration,studentsandparentsonpolicydecisionsandisresponsiblefortheactivitiesofitsunits:StudentHealthServices,CareerServices,CommunicationsServices,StudentDisabilityServices, ResidentialEducation,InternationalStudentCenter,StudentLifeLeadership,EducationalOpportunity Program,FinancialAidandScholarships,CounselingandPsychologicalServices,Testing,StudentRights andResponsibilities,Ombudsmen,HealthPromotion,TechnologyServices,andNewStudentandParentPrograms.

IV.EDUCATIONALOBJECTIVES
TheGraduateAssistant,underdirectsupervisionoftheAssistantDirectorofStudentLifeand Leadership,willworkspecificallywiththeareaofLeadershipPrograms/CommunityServiceand otherprogramareasasassigned.ThisappointmentisforAugustthroughmid-MaybutmaybeterminatedwithoutcausepriortoMay.
TheGraduateAssistantmayhavetheopportunitytodevelopthefollowingskills:supervisory skills,interpersonalskills,communicationskills,publicspeakingskills,timemanagementskills, organizationalskills,eventplanningskills,creativeproblemsolvingskills,conflictresolution skills,meetingmanagementskills,anddelegationskills.
V.DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Thepositionwillcarrydutiesandresponsibilitiesasfollowsandcanchangedependentupontheneedsoftheprogram.GraduateAssistantsworkeveningprogramsandhours.
100%ofthispositionwillbespentworkingwithFraternityandSororityLife
Minimum10hrs/week;Maximum20hrs/week(40hrs/weekwhenschoolisnotinsession).
Administrative
1.AssisttheAssistantDirectorofStudentLifeLeadershipandAssistantStudentLifeAdvisorinplanning,implementingandevaluatingvariousprogramsandactivities.
2.Prepareresourcematerialssuchasnotebooks,handouts,publicationsandPowerPointpresentations.
3.AssistintrackingandgatheringdatatopreparingreportsrelatedtoGreeklife.
4.AssistinallGreekrelatedpotentialnewmemberrecruitmentefforts.
5.Organizematerialsrelativetovariousprogramsandprojects.
6.Effectivelycommunicateandrespondtoroutineinquiries;explainstandardpoliciesand procedurestobothindividualstudentsandgroups.
7.AssistingreetingvisitorstotheOfficeofStudentLifeandLeadershipandansweringphones whilestaffingthefrontdesk.
8.AttendallGraduateAssistantmeetingsandtraining.
9.ServeonStudentLifeLeadershipcommitteesasassigned.
10.Attendapprovedworkshopsandconferencesasavailable;seekpre-professionaldevelopmentopportunitiesinstudentaffairs-relatedareas.

Programmatic/Advising
2.AttendandfacilitatemeetingsofGreekgoverningcouncilsandGreekrelatedauxiliary groups(suchasOrderofOmega,GAMMA,GreekLifeActivitiesBoard,etc.)andprovideassistanceandconsultationtostudentleaders.
3.Assistinorganizingandfacilitatingsemesterofficertrainingandtransitionretreatseachsemester.
4.Assistinthedevelopment,implementation,andassessmentoflearningoutcomesforGreek lifestudentleadershipactivities(i.e.GreekLeadershipAcademy,NewMemberEducation Series,andRiskManagementSeminars)
5.Developandpresentworkshopsforchapterofficers(treasurers,socialchairs,scholarship chairs,newmembereducators,etc.)aswellasgeneralworkshopsontopicssuchashazing, publicrelations,riskmanagement,goalsetting,etc.
6.Assistchaptersthatrequireadditionalsupervisionbyadministrativestaff.
7.Otherdutiesasassigned.
VI.REQUIREMENTS
1.Musthavea3.00cumulativeG.P.A.forgraduatecoursesduringemployment.
2.Mustbeenrolledinatleast6unitsinastudentpersonnelorrelatedprogramatSanDiegoStateUniversityduringtheacademicyear.
3.Mustbeavailabletoworkanaverageof20hoursperweekduringtheacademicyear. Eveningandweekendhourswillberequired.
