TITLE:Staff Development Coordinator

METHOD OF PAY:Hourly

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Administrator and Director of Nursing Services in orientationand training personnel of the facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines,and regulations that govern the facility and as may be required to ensure that the highest quality of care ismaintained at all times.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
  2. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as law, regulations andguidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  3. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with andsupervise other personnel.
  4. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, governmentagencies and the general public.
  5. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives,policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
  6. Must have experience as a supervisor in a health care facility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without the aid of mechanical devices)

  1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  2. Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  1. Must be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal Integrity, and the ability to workeffectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  2. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostilepeople within the facility.
  1. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
  2. Must be able to push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
  3. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluation, studies, charting,etc. as necessary
  2. Make appropriate reports to the Director as required or as may be necessary
  3. Interpret the department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and governmentagencies as necessary.
  4. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, nationalorigin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status.
  1. Attend Resident Rights in-service quarterly.
  2. Rights of all residents are respected at all times per "Resident Bill of Rights."
  3. Resident confidentiality maintained per HIPPA guidelines.
  4. Knock before entering a resident's room.
  1. Ensure that you and the staff are following all safety, infection control, and standard precaution policieswhenperforming daily tasks.
  2. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes inyour profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.
  1. Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC training programs, as well as annual disaster training.
  2. Attend and participate In Advance Directive training. .
  3. Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
  4. Keep current with new requirements, new programs, and new expectations.
  5. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information,
  6. Maintain the confidentiality of all Human Resource Information.
  7. Report any complaints and grievances made by the residents and/or staff to Administer, DON, or ADON including making a written/oral report as need as directed.
  8. Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program that orients the new employee tothe facility, its policies and procedures, and to his/her Job position and duties.
  9. Participate in the development; planning, conduction, and scheduling of In-services training classes andskill audits that provide instruction on "how to do the Job," and ensures a well-educated nursing servicesdepartment.
  10. Present or coordinate all staff development In-service sessions to meet the needs of the facility.
  11. Present additional in-service sessions/programs as requested by Corporate, Administration, Director of Nursing, or Assistant Director of Nursing.
  12. Provide leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential forcharge/ staff nurses.
  13. Assist support services in developing, implementing, and conduction In-service training programsrelated to all department job functions.
  14. Ensure that all nursing service personnel are knowledgeable of the resident rights, and responsibilities
  15. Assist the director and/or Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routineand job-related functions to ensure that task in which potential exposure to blood/body fluids areproperly identified and record
  16. Monitor nursing care to assure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity andrespect.
  17. Be available to accommodate and assist staff that has other jobs, schooling, etc., in meeting In-servicehours required.
  18. Establish rapport with hospice agencies, suppliers, outside entities, etc., and accept their available in-serviceprograms.
  19. Encourage staff to attend and participate in outside training programs. Schedule times as appropriate.
  20. Ensure all required in-service programs are available to staff.
  21. Ensure required in-service hours are available for CNA annual recertification.
  22. Develop lesson plans for all in-services
  23. Keep accurate in-service attendance records of all employees and report periodically to Administratorand Director of Nursing.
  24. Maintain accurate recordings of in-services and C.N.A. records
  25. Ensure and assist in maintaining all C.N.A. certifications and Nursing licenses
  26. Develop and function and Safety team Head chair conduction monthly meetings with goal often to:
  27. Participate In all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills.
  28. Report any hazardous conditions/equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor immediately.
  29. Ensure residents and staff will have a clean and safe environment.
  30. Make environmental rounds to ensure call lights are in place; bed cranks are In safe condition,that there are no safety hazards such as clutter.
  31. Check equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs to ensure they are in working condition.
  32. Follow Infection control measures and ensure the personnel under your supervisor do so aswell.
  33. Ensure that work areas, such as nurses' station, are kept clean and orderly. Eating and drinkingin nurses' station is not permitted.
  34. Participate and function as part of the Nursing Aid Program as designed by School Coordinator
  35. Ensure yearly Health Screens and PPD's are given.
  36. Ensure all new hire and random periodic drug screens are completed on a timely basis.
  37. Provide pre-employment health checks per policy.
  38. Ensure PPD's are given to new employees and health screen per policy with follow-up #2 PPD two weekslater.
  39. Educate staff with information regarding Flu vaccine and Pneumococcal vaccine.
  40. Administer Flu vaccine and Pneumococcal vaccine and staff as requested.
  41. Document properly all immunizations given.

Other:

  1. Must be flexible in willingness and ability to work on any unit and/or shift needed to meet the requirements of Magnolia Manor residents.
  2. Subject to call-back during any emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather, evacuation, natural disaster, etc.).
  3. You are expected to follow the policies set forth in the employee handbook.
  4. Must be without conviction of any criminal offense that would prohibit employment in a nursing facility or exclusion from participation in any Federal health care programs.

I hereby accept the position of Staff Development Coordinator and agree to perform the identified essential functions in a safe manner and in accordance with the facility’s established procedures. I understand that as a result of my employment, I may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious disease, air contaminants (including tobacco smoke), and hazardous chemicals and that the facility will provide to me instructions on how to prevent and control such exposures. I further understand that I may also be exposed to the Hepatitis B Virus and that the facility will make available to me, free of charge, the hepatitis B vaccination.

I understand that my employment is at-will, and thereby understand that my employment may be terminated at-will either by the facility or myself and that such termination can be made with or without notice.
