This is a really unique opportunity for the Shell Eco-marathon students from across the Americas. This is the first time for many of them in Detroit and it's their first chance to take a look at what the auto makers are doing behind the scenes.

I think it's just a tremendous programme to inspire our young talent and the fact that Shell has created this great programme and has been promoting it for a number of years with such a wide variety of individuals, is just outstanding.

It really takes a person who's got a passion for it it's very creative, innovative, exciting.

We've learnt a lot here today. Being able to see what they do with their large engines and what we can apply to our smaller engines so we can take some of the same simulations that they do for our real road testing, bring it back and optimise our cars.

This experience has been eye-opening and I would say also very encouraging. We got to see a lot of it, more behind closed doors and in-depth today, which is always good for us aspiring engineers.
