1.0Purpose:
Janus, Janus Justice, Time Out, SYI and CCA:
Relief workersprovide support to various Projects in the delivery of services as and when required.They will be required to deliver all aspects of the programme in a flexible manner as part of a team. They will work in close partnership with statutory agencies, community resources and the young person’s family and deliver a range of individuals and group work programmes for medium to high risk young people.
There will be a Time-Out component to the role which can augment theinterventions by providing short stay residential placements (maximum three nights) for individuals. All programmes will provide dedicated staff and in the case of overnights and residential breaks they will remain in residence with the young person for the duration of the placement.

13.0Key Responsibilities:

Service Users

  • In conjunction with line manager/project worker will follow through with existing objectives and plans for service users when offering relief support to projects.
  • Ensure all aspectsof case management are undertaken including intervention planning and recording of all relevant information in line with Extern policy and legal requirements.
  • Facilitate and participate in all aspects of planned interventions with service users (eg. group work, overnight residential, individual & activities)
  • Will be flexible and have the ability to adapt easily to a variety of clients and settings.
  • Facilitate delivery of responsive interventions when required to meet service user needs.

Risk Management

  • Ensure appropriate knowledge of service user risk assessments and contribute where necessary to theirreview.
  • Follow necessary risk management requirements e.g. room checks, medication administration, on call procedures.
  • Adhere to safeguarding procedures and relevant internal & external policy and standards.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective use, maintenance and security, of physical resources in relation to own and others’ work within the project.
  • Undertake relevant risk management training, and liaise with line manager in regard to any changes in service user risks.
  • To risk assess each planned activity in line with Externs policy.
  • To facilitate activities in line with Extern’s approved centre list.
  • Ensure appropriate use of all physical resources provided, including safe storage and access by approved personnel only.
  • Manage young people who display challenging behaviour in a supportive and constructive way seeking support and guidance from project workers or line manager in the event of unforeseen difficulties arising.
  • Lone working may be a requirement of the role.

Communication (Internal & External)

  • Work in a Multi-agency and multi-disciplinary manner with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings as required and act as advocate for service user when appropriate e.g. team meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings etc.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with Services Users, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Represent Extern professionally through a variety of communication mediums, eg. Emails, telephone contact, and presentations.
  • Ensure all communication is in line with Extern key messaging and corporate branding.

Recording

  • Ensure compliance with necessary recording requirements e.g. information management systems, service user files, case notes.
  • Complete individual reports in a timely manner at an acceptable standard.
  • Ensure Data Protection legislation is adhered to and that service user right to confidentiality is protected including securing confidential information.
  • Record and provide receipts for all petty cash, and ensure money is responsibly secured and utilised effectively.
  • Complete weekly time sheets through use of online diary.

Supervision

  • Engage fully in the Extern supervision process for professional development, case management and utilise for professional problem-solving.

Training

  • Responsible for keeping updated on Extern’s policies and procedures.
  • Attend all core training, in line with Extern requirements (eg. TCI & First Aid)
  • Utilise other forms of self-directed learning to maximise professional learning (eg. research articles, shadowing opportunities)
  • Ensure that learning gained is implemented in practice and where possible shared with team members.

Health & Safety

  • Adhere to Extern’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures e.g. Lone Working Policy, transport policy
  • Will act as a key holder for any buildings and secure the buildings as appropriate.
  • Ensure completion of project vehicle checks, and report any maintenance or safety issues evident.
  • Complete training and adhere to all Fire Safety regulations.

Project SpecificDuties:

  • Monthly home visits will take place with parents/carers in order to provide support.
  • Relief Staff will be asked to provide cover and support to all Extern programmes in the Mid-West

Part 2:Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Obtained 5 passes (Grade A-C) in a minimum of 5 subjects at Leaving Certificate (Ordinary level) or equivalent qualification (e.g. FETAC Level 5) in a relevant subject e.g. child care/youth work.
  • A minimum of 6 months’ experience (paid or voluntary capacity) of direct/targeted work with young people aged 8 to 18 in a structured environment e.g. residential setting, youth project, social work/care, etc. When citing voluntary experience you must evidence and outline the dates and hours that equate to the full time equivalent hours.
  • Must have a full driving licence and access to a car with relevant business insurance. (Please note this driving criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to demonstrate their ability to meet the mobility requirements of the post).
  • IT competence, including use of Microsoft Office applications - Word, Outlook and Excel
  • In addition, successful applicants must be available to work irregular hours including residential overnights, evenings, and weekends.

Desirable Criteria

  • Be in the third or final year of a FETAC level 7 course in Social Work, Youth & Community Work, Social Care or a related Social Science Discipline
  • A Professional Qualification, Level 7 (as per the National Framework of Qualifications- in Social Work, Youth and Community Work, Social Care or related Social Science Discipline, Diploma or Degree level.
