My name is Rina Garrett, and I'm the tourism development officer for Erris Beo.

In 2008, when Erris Tourism decided that they needed to market and promote the region, they approached Shell, and Shell had agreed to work with them on a three year plan.

And they funded two full time employees in 2008 to solely market and promote the Erris region.

We are on the Wild Atlantic Way, the landscape is absolutely breath-taking.It’s a beautiful place.

Sometimes I find it hard to describe in words how beautiful the place is. You really have to come and experience it for yourself.

We are off the beaten track, so we needed to get the tourists to come to us, and of course, you know, you’re competing with other destinations. You’re constantly trying to offer something different.

So we kind of made it an adventure and activity destination, really.

You can do everything, from water sports to walking, kite surfing, kayaking. Jump off a cliff, down at Erris Head.

You can get, you know, your top class accommodation, but you can walk on a secluded beach and meet nobody.

[VO] The biggest product is the Carne Golf Links. It’s a tough course, it’s 27 holes. Every year the Shell Pro-Am is held at Carne Golf Links in Belmullet, which is one of the most popular PGA events in Ireland.

[OC] Last year we won The Irish Times “Best Place in Ireland to Go Wild”, and that was a huge success.

[OC] There’s a great proudness, and a great community spirit within the area.

[OC] But this wouldn't have happened, only for going back to 2008, when Erris Beo was set up.

Erris Beo is among 130 community and voluntary organisations that have partnered with Shell.
