Title of Post: Digital Learning Developer

Grade: 6

Department: Centre for Enhancement in Learning and Teaching (CELT)

Responsible to:Head of Learning Enhancement

Main purpose of the job:

To work with the Head of Learning Enhancement and other academic staff in the development of technology enhanced learning, by producing electronic resources, designing and delivering development sessions, face to face and online, and supporting and advising on the implementation and integration of appropriate learning technologies

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work alongside the Head of Learning Enhancement and the Head of CELT to embed enhancements to learning and teaching through implementation of the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy
  1. Provide expert advice, guidance and support for academic staff to integrate technological innovations into learning and teaching activities
  1. Advise staff on best practice and provide guidance on innovative and appropriate pedagogy and approaches to enhancing the student learning experience
  1. Advise staff on internal and external learning and teaching resources and support available for technology-enhanced learning
  1. Produce learning materials in a range of applications, recognising the different needs of staff and students; identify appropriate and strategic ways of introducing the materials consistently across the University to enhance learning
  1. Provide specialist training sessions for staff and students to support the development of particular aspects of teaching and learning using technology
  1. Contribute to the design of innovative projects to improve digital literacies across the University for both staff and students including promoting the integration of social networking, collaboration and communication tools
  1. To contribute to the development and delivery of appropriate, proactive, innovative and creative, research-informed programmes of staff development preparing training materials as appropriate for academic and professional support staff, including those new to teaching and/or new to the University
  1. Create technical instructions and user guides for centrally supported learning technologies
  1. Manage pilots of new and existing technologies
  1. Maintain awareness of relevant developments beyond the University, through collaboration, national and regional networks, and profile raising activities
  1. Provide support to colleagues and engage in a range of activities including the delivery of specific projects which support institutional learning and teaching priorities and which also address national developments
  1. Contribute to the development of relevant University policies advising senior managers on pedagogically appropriate technical developments
  1. Create on-line resources and workshop materials accessible through the university’s VLE and contribute to content creation and other applications
  1. Liaise with academic teams and individuals regarding resource development and technology usage, responding to enquiries and making recommendations on the selection and implementation of technologies
  1. Support a small number of ‘Digistars’, students engaged in a range of technology enhanced learning projects, providing advice and guidance where needed and monitoring their progress
  1. Obtain feedback from service users, report on and evaluate the impact and progress of activities for monitoring and development purposes
  1. Analyse qualitative and quantitative data producing draft reports identifying key issues that inform management interventions. Formulate recommendations and provide advice on the implications of the data
  1. Lead and/or participate in working/project groups designed to consider specific aspects of learning, teaching and assessment working in partnership across the University
  1. Attend and contribute to groups and committees and report back to CELT as appropriate
  1. To provide support to other Enquiries, Student Recruitment and Admissions roles as appropriate
  1. To attend appropriate staff development sessions and participate in the annual appraisalprocess

Qualifications
and Special Training / Candidate should be educated to undergraduate degree level. / Qualifications (professional, first degree or post graduate) in education, computer science, web development or equivalent disciplines or be able to demonstrate significant achievement in these areas in other ways, e.g. work experience.
Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Experience / Experience of working with a range of learning technologies and applications.
Experience of working in a learning and teaching environment to design and develop technology enhanced learning and teaching resources.
Experience of monitoring and evaluating work and projects, in order to make recommendations for continuous improvement. / Specific experience of online course development.
Knowledge and Skills / Excellent and wide ranging IT skills required to maintain learning and teaching support materials and resources including technical support.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable with face-to-face and large group delivery.
A good understanding of processes involved in Higher Education and of learning and teaching in general.
Experience of working with new and social media including Blogs, RSS, Podcasts, Wikis, Twitter and on-line video. / Experience of working to best-practice guidelines to achieve recognised standards in accessibility and usability within online published content.
Personal / Conscientious, enthusiastic and self-motivated with a good eye for detail.
Able to build good working relationships with staff and students.
Able to prioritise work in a large scale environment.
Flexible in their approach to work.
Able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.
