Main purpose of job
The Direct Marketing Assistant (DMA) will work alongside the Direct Marketing Officer, assisting in developing and retaining existing supporters through a number of different channels including direct mail, email and telephone.
The DMA will help ensure that campaigns run to schedule and are delivered within budget to a high standard. They must also possess excellent communication skills and be able to maintain good relationships with a variety of suppliers. Other duties will include briefing agencies, and collating feedback during and after a campaign. They will also be required to proof copy and check that artwork meets any fundraising regulatory standards
The DMA will play a key role in briefing internal teams, making sure they are aware of donor activity and have any materials needed to respond to supporter queries and log donations. They will be also be responsible for raising purchase orders and updating results spreadsheets. From time to time, travel and staying away overnight may be required, for example when meeting agencies who are based further afield.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- ‘A’ Levels or equivalent
- An understanding of different direct marketing channels
- Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Marketing/fundraising qualification
- Educated to degree level
- Direct marketing experience on either agency or client side
- Working in a charity related environment
- Working with a range of suppliers of services and generating good working relationships
- Knowledge and experience of online and offline channels including email, social media, SMS, direct mail, and telephone fundraising.
- Managing costs/expenditure e.g. raising purchase orders
The person
You will be an excellent organiser, quick to learn and able to help the Direct Marketing Officer and wider team to “juggle” several projects at once to meet tight deadlines. Your communication and team working skills are of paramount importance, as is your ability to liaise with suppliers and internal departments. You must be able to cope under pressure whilst remaining helpful and friendly. You will also be able to show initiative and prioritise your workload and commitments. Above all, you must have a passion for pets and animal welfare.
Duties
CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT
- Progressing campaign schedules
- Contributing and collating feedback on creative concepts and copy for appeals for our agencies
- Proofreading copy/phone scripts & managing/collating feedback
- Working with web team to deliver email and social media campaigns
- Sourcing and collating quotes from agencies and suppliers as required
- Checking/approving artwork, print proofs, laser proofs and SEPs
- Creating/updating campaign results spreadsheets and being involved in ongoing results evaluation
FULFILMENT
- Creating fulfilment and managing stock levels
- Day to day liaison with Finance, Fulfilment Services, Postroom and external suppliers
- Briefing internal & external audiences on all activity
Salary
£19,000 – £20,500 per annum dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Job details
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm. However, due to the nature of the work of Blue Cross and this post it may be necessary to exceed these hours when the workload demands.
