Coordinates with:Campus Life Staff,Dean of Students Office, Advising, Space & Scheduling, Community Based Learning, Sullivan Fitness Center.

  1. Statement of the Job:

The Coordinator will oversee and provide leadership for all of our student clubs and organizations, Student Senate, WMPG, and The Free Press. The Coordinator will oversee the daily operation of the Woodbury Campus Center and ensure quality student events and activities are happening on both the Portland and Lewiston Auburn Campuses.

  1. Essential Functions:

Student Clubs and Organizations:

  1. Provide leadership, management, and oversight of student organizations/clubs, approximately 100 different groups.
  2. Provide opportunities for students to develop positive peer relationships and interactions with others in the USM community.
  3. Advise the Student Senate and the Board of Student Organizations
  4. Serve as a board member for WMPG. Working to align the operation with USM and the student experience.

Student Events & Activities:

  1. Promote, coordinate and implement social, recreational and educational programming on the Portland and Lewiston Auburn Campuses as well as off-campus events as appropriate. Ensure that all programs are theoretically sound, holistic, and inclusive.
  2. Program plans should span the academic year. Schedule a variety of programs and activities throughout the week and at various times with a special focus on class schedules at the Portland and Lewiston Auburn Campuses.
  3. Assist in developing a campus environment that is sensitive to the diverse cultures, traditions, lifestyles and beliefs of our students.
  4. Provide opportunities for students to develop positive peer relationships and interactions with other USM community members.
  5. Encourage student involvement in traditional and non-traditional leadership opportunities and campus activities.

Supervision and Training Responsibilities:

  1. Directly supervise WMPG Station Manager, Manager of the Student Government Business office, Administrative Support Specialist of the Free Press, 1 Graduate Assistant.
  2. Conduct regular supervision meetings with staff.
  3. Complete annual performance reviews of staff.
  4. Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for the entire staff throughout the year.

Administrative Responsibilities:

1.Oversee the daily operations of the Woodbury Campus Center.

2.Ensure the department’s activities and programs are sensible, flexible, functional, cost effective, and inclusive of all stakeholders.

3.Expand the uses of technology to market our initiatives.

4.Assist with recruiting events including Campus Visit Days and Admitted Student Days.

5.Track, assess, and report out achievement of outcomes around student organizations and groups.

III. Marginal Functions:

Represent Campus Life in University activities and internal/external settings as requested. Assist other departments in the recruitment of student and staff members as needed.

IV. Budget Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the student organizations and groups budgets of $500,000.
  2. Oversee the WMPG and Free Press budget of $366,000 and $40,000 respectively.

3.Approve and administer monthly charges for various expenditures and revenues for above budgeted areas.

1.Maintain membership in appropriate state, regional, and national professional organizations such as ACUHO-I, NEACUHO, MASAP, NASPA and ACPA.

8.Ability to be an effective mentor to students and to appropriately advise university students about personal and vocational choices, including advising them as to what departments might be able to more effectively assist them with their particular issues.

  1. Qualifications

Required:

●Bachelor’s degree

●3-5 years’ experience with student organizations in a university or college environment.

●Supervisory experience

Preferred:

●Master’s Degree

●3+ years’ experience in college student leadership, student activities, group facilitation skills, supervision.
