Coordinates with Employer Relationship Managers, Community stakeholders, USM deans, directors and administrators, faculty members, southern Maine and state leaders in all fields, members of advisory groups, other UMS campuses, national organizations in continuing and adult education and various other fields as appropriate to program.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB

The Coordinator of Program Development is responsible for direct outreach to community and internal and external stakeholders to design, develop, and market a comprehensive range of non-credit programming through the University of Southern Maine’s Professional Development Programs. The Coordinator will be expected to exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit and a strategic mindset to imagine, create, and help deliver programming that is responsive, timely and relevant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·  Networks with community groups that enhance the PDP mission. Seeks and meets with appropriate community leaders, attends meetings and social events, and maintains effective communication with such groups.

·  Identifies and solicits potential clients

·  Establishes long-term partnership relationships with clients

·  Assesses clients’ development and training needs

·  Develops solutions and written proposals

·  Presents proposals

·  Identifying emerging trends and opportunities for serving working adults and other constituents through research and professional networking

·  Creates collaborative relationships with organizations and individuals (particularly USM deans and department chairs), as well as institutional partnerships

·  Forms and maintains a program advisory network

·  Seeks opportunities to enhance the PDP mission through public relations activities.

·  Work closely with Asst Director Abromson Programs and the Executive Director of Auxiliary Services to identify new programming opportunities through research, working with other USM departments, and community contacts.

·  Advises stakeholders on program progress and direction.

·  Facilitates and /or participates in program development process.

·  Oversees customized training.

·  Oversees relationships with business and professional organizations.

·  Recommends the design and implementation of the overall marketing strategies for PDP and its constituent departments under the direction of the Executive Director

·  Collaborates with the USM Marketing and Public Affairs departments to facilitate cooperation and coordination.

·  Identifying emerging trends and opportunities for serving working adults through research and professional networking

·  Creating collaborative relationships with organizations and individuals (particularly USM deans and department chairs), as well as institutional partnerships

·  Forming and maintaining program advisory networks

·  Developing and monitoring program budgets; analyzing financial effectiveness of program areas

·  Developing marketing strategies that are effective for disparate programs and constituent groups

·  Manages the relationship with design and marketing vendors.

·  Develops and monitors the PDP marketing budget.

·  Maintains currency in marketing best practices through research and participation in regional and national professional continuing education.

·  Networks with community groups that enhance the PDP mission. Seeks and meets with appropriate community leaders, attends meetings and social events, and maintains effective communication with such groups.

·  Seeks opportunities to enhance the PDP mission through public relations activities.

·  Represents Professional and Continuing Education on appropriate University committees, task forces, etc. Develops good relations inside USM and the University System, and contributes to USM's quality of life by enhancing awareness of the public service point of view.

·  Prepares statistical and evaluative reports on programs for the Executive Director. Ensures that the Executive Director is constantly aware of PDP programming and marketing activities and results.

·  Performs such other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator is responsible for the overall PDP marketing budget and assists in monitoring the net revenue of PDP courses to inform the program development process. Uses profit/loss data from the database for decision-making and strategy development.

PROFESSIONAL/PUBLIC ACTIVITIES

The Coordinator will maintain membership and participation in appropriate professional associations and adult education organizations.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS

Internal Employer Relationship Managers; Deans, directors, and all levels of administrators at USM; committee and Senate leaders, as appropriate.

External Leaders at all levels and within all fields of the southern Maine community, members of advisory groups, clients, appropriate personnel at other University of Maine System campuses, colleagues at public and private higher education institutions in the nation.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

·  Organizational management skills including planning, supervision, and budget management, demonstrated by successful experience in managing a similar type of organization.

·  Knowledge of organizational change methods; ability to facilitate groups through such a process.

·  Knowledge of and experience in program planning and administration, coordination, staff management.

·  Knowledge of educational program promotion and marketing methods.

·  Knowledge of continuous quality improvement methods.

·  Ability to conceptualize ideas and make decisions quickly and under pressure.

·  Mental agility, flexibility, and entrepreneurial mind set.

·  Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and community groups.

·  Ability to communicate effectively through all forms of written, oral, and electronic communications methods.

·  Ability to manage and motivate people and groups. Intellectual grasp of human and organizational development concepts.

·  Ability to oversee concurrent implementation and planning.

·  Ability to travel throughout Maine and New England.

·  Successful experience in teaching adults helpful.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Master's degree or equivalent combination of education an experience in adult and continuing education, or related field.

Experience 5+ years' experience in educational administration and adult program planning.
