Title: Bow Wow Wow Grade Level: 2nd Grade

Materials Needed:

·  Song Packet “Bow Wow Wow”

Procedure:

Introduction:

Tell the students you are going to sing them a song and instruct them to listen to what is said. Sing the “Bow Wow Wow” to the students. Ask the students, “What kind of animal is the song about? What words does the dog say? Whose dog is it?”

Activity Sequence:

1.  Teach the students the words to “Bow Wow Wow” using the Rote Process.

“Bow Wow Wow,

Whose Dog art thou?

Little Tommy Tucker’s Dog,

Bow Wow Wow.”

2.  Ask the students, “What does art thou mean?” Explain that it is Old English, so the song is an old song.

3.  Teach the students the movements for the lyrics.

4.  Have the students stomp their feet for the “Bow wow wow” portion.

5.  Have them point and shake their fingers for “Whose dog art thou?”

6.  Have them turn around for the “Little Tommy Tucker’s dog” part.

7.  Have the students stomp their feet again for the “Bow wow wow” portion.

8.  Have the students partner up with a student next to them. Have them take hands and switch places.

9.  Once in their partner’s place, have the students turn around/jump and say “Woof” as they face a new partner.

10.  Continue to play the game until students are paired up with their initial partners.

Closure:

Have the students sit back down in the circle, and briefly recap what the song was about. Ask the students, “Is it a newer song? Is it an old song?” Have the students leave with the understanding that it is an older song, but still a fun game to play.
