PURPOSE: Correct the differences in reference table and Figure.

IMPACT: The business Impact is neutral.

TECHNICAL BASIS: Dimension HN in Table 3-6, column 8 applies to Appendix-A. This should be part of Appendix-A and not part of basic API-650. Delete all values of HN in column 8 of Table 3-6 and replace with revised foot note-d for basic API-650 design. Provide separate equivalent table in Appendix-A for Appendix-A tanks.

JUSTIFICATION: This agenda item will help better understanding and application of Table 3-6 and weld spacing rules.

PROPOSED CHANGES:

(1)  Revise Column 8 in Table 3-6 , deleting all distances and replacing with Foot Note-d

(2)  Revise foot notes c and d under Table 3-6 as follows

Note: All Tables and Figure numbers are from API-650, 10 Th. Edition, 4Th. Addendum.

c : Low Type Reinforced nozzles shall not be located lower than elevation shown in Column-9. (Refer to 3.7.3.3 and Figure 3-22)

d: Regular Type Reinforced nozzles shall be located no lower than the highest distance derived from Column 9, 3.7.3, Fig.3-22 and any purchaser stipulated distances. Figure 3-5 and Figure 3-22 depict nozzle types.

(3)  Add New Table A-7

Add revised Foot Note-c and d under Table A-7

c: Low Type Reinforced nozzles shall not be located lower than elevation shown in Column-9. (Refer to A.5.2 and Figure 3-22)

d: Regular Type Reinforced nozzles shall be located no lower than the highest distance derived from Column 8, A.5.2 and any purchaser stipulated distances. Figure 3-5 and Figure 3-22 depict nozzle types.

Revise A.5.2 (This revision is to address comment on 650-618 by Ron Baily)

A.5.2 The requirements of 3.7.3 for the spacing of welds do not apply except for the requirement that the spacing between the toes of welds around a connection shall not be less than 2 1/2 times the shell thickness at the connection i.e dimension A, B, C, E, F or G in Fig.3-22 shall not be less than 2 ½ times shell thickness.

Revise A.7.2

A.7.2 Shell nozzles and flanges shall conform to 3.7.6; Figures 3-4B, 3-5, and 3-7; and Tables A-A-7, 3-7 and 3-8.
