Timeline of My Family

Worksheet Due: Wed. Mar 28th Timeline Due: Friday, April 27th

Construct a timeline of events during the lives of one set of your grandparents, your parents and you. The timeline will begin with the birth of the oldest grandparent and end in 2012.

1. Include the following events (month, day aren’t necessary / differentiate the categories):

  • 10 personal events in the lives of your grandparents
  • 10 personal events in the lives of your parents
  • 10 personal events in your life - might include: birth, death, baptism, confirmation, bar mitzvah, 1st date, graduation, job, wedding, divorce, new car, new home, sports, school or community participation and awards
  • 15 national events - might include: wars, significant presidential elections, depressions, disasters, etc.
  • 15 cultural events-might include: fashions, movies, music, phrases, fads, fun, etc.
  • 15inventions orpopular products - mightinclude: gadgets, technology, transportation, etc. Do not list these events on the date that they were invented but rather estimate the date in which they became popular or were used by your family. For example, the car, air plane and computer were invented long before the average American owned or used one.

2. Add 25 visuals: magazine pictures, photos, illustrations, mementos, ticket stubs, etc.

3. Include a legend which defines each category of events.

Timelinesmay be created as a poster, scrapbook, chart, power point, website, etc.

  • Family: The purpose of the timeline is to help students explore the events of the 20th century through 3 generations. Please feel free to use the individuals in your life that will fit into these roles if your family situation isn’t traditional. No explanation is necessary; however, the teacher will be happy to assist you if needed.
  • Years/ Events: Try to spread the events throughout the timeline; however, it is not necessary to have an event for each year and some years may have more than one event.
  • Worksheet / Chart: Start the project by completing the worksheet with all of the events for the timeline. Turn it in to the teacher on or before March30thfor review so that your progress may be checked.

Grading Scale:

  • Worksheet – 1 point per event = 75 points possible - due March 28th
  • Timeline - 3 pts. per picture = 751 pt. per event = 75 visual appeal = 15

organization = 20 legend = 15 pts possible= 200

  • Late Timelines: April 30th– 25 pts. May 1stor later - 50 pts.

students should turn this chart in to be gradedon or before March28th.

This worksheet is to help students organize the events for the timeline. It is not to be turned in with the timeline.
