Timed Write Score Interpretation:

Students: Please know that I took into consideration factors including, but not limited to, the fact that the write was timed, you had limited quantity parameters, the prompt topics were a surprise, and you have likely not written throughout the summer. I also understand that this is a sample, and you may have previous writings, grades, and/or test scores to demonstrate competency. Only you genuinely know how well this paper reflects what you are capable of producing.

One (1): If you scored a one, you may want to consider if Advanced English 9 is the course for you, or if your developing skills would be better honed in a standard College Prep English 9 course. Your paper likely demonstrates numerous grammatical errors, sentence convention issues, and/or topic development deficiencies. I will not remove you from the class for scoring a one, but be advised that it is likely this class will be an additional challenge.

Two (2): If you scored a two, you are in the frame of being able to maintain a passing grade in the class. You will need to make conscientious efforts to improve the grammar, focus, and development of your writing beyond simple repair. Additional efforts and potential drafts may be necessary. However, if you are devoted, it will pay off.

Three (3): If you scored a three, you are where you need to be in order to progress as the class is set. There are likely errors in your paper; however, you maintained a clear flow and developed ideas as they pertained to the prompt. Continue to grow in each essay and follow corrections in order to blossom as a writer.

Four (4): If you scored a four, your skills are above the anticipated level of entry. In order to continue your growth as a writer, we will push your word choice, sentence complexity, and the depth of analysis.
