The West Carroll Wings Track and Field Program competes as an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) registered club sponsored by the West Carroll Recreation Council. During the spring season (March 1– June 5) the Wings travel throughout Central Maryland competing against clubs from all over the region. During the summer session (June 8- August 1) a select group of Wings have the opportunity to represent the club at District, Regional, and National meets. The Wings program enters its 5th season maintaining a focus on assisting young athletes ages 6-18 with maximizing 5 core areas: Character, Endurance, Flexibility, Speed, and Strength. In each of the previous years the Wings have had athletes compete at the AAU Jr Olympic meet and welcomes new athletes to join in the challenge of reaching new heights in 2017.

Indoor Training- We get started in March (indoors)

Practices are typically held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting in the beginning of April at the FSK track 630-8PM. (April 4 –June 2)

Track Meets are held on typically held on Sunday afternoons throughout the season (The schedule will be posted by February 13th and there may be an occasional Saturday meet.)

2017 Cost Information:

  • $90 Registration for a single athlete
  • $160 total registration if two athletes are in the same household (family special)

Program Highlights:

Since inception in 2012 West Carroll Wings have been the only track & field program in Carroll County competing in the AAU National Jr Olympic meet each year. In the program’s short history, it’s produced several district & regional champions and 5 national medalist garnering a total of 8 national medals.

The program is able to support inclusion of all levels of athletes, while developing elite athletes concurrently.

The Wings program has an exceptional support staff that boast a team of coaches that includes a group of radical throwing specialists, jumping specialists, distance enthusiasts, and sprint coaching technicians. Our coaching staff has developed a C.L.A.P coaching philosophy: C = Commitment to the community, L = Leadership on and off the field, A = Accountability to the craft of teaching/coaching expertise facilitating knowledge transfer and execution, and P = Passion to keep the athletes excited during practice and competition.

2017 Outlook:

This year’s team includes 9 returning national qualifying athletes, 2 regional champs, and several district medalists. We anticipate over 60 athletes to participate this year ages 6-18. The team will participate in (8) Central Maryland Youth Track Association meets in Carroll, Frederick, and Howard counties during the regular season. The AAU national meet is held in Detroit, MI this year for those that qualify. The program expects to travel to the AAU Jr Olympic meet this year with 10+ athletes this year.
