Fighting for Survival

The land of Seven Sisters, Northeast India, is the eastern-most region of India. It comprises of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya , Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura, and the big brother, the Himalayan state of Sikkim. The state of Arunachal Pradesh can be divided into three cultural groups based on their socio-economic life of people. Assam is the gateway to the northeast; having one of the greatest rivers of the world, the mighty Brahmaputra. This state is famous for tea and its scenic beauty.

Manipur which means the ‘Land of Gems’ is a land with rich valleys surrounded by beautiful hills and lakes. Agriculture is the main stay of the people. Weaving among them is a traditional art of women and they have an inherit love for dance and music. Their dances, whether folk or classical or modern, are devotional in nature Meghalaya is mainly a Christianity dominated state but it is endowed with a rich variety of flora and fauna and is basically an agricultural state. Mizoram is a mountainous region and Mizos are of Mongoloid origin, speaking a dialect of Tibeto-Burman origin. They have three main festivals and agriculture is the mainstay for about 60% of the population. Nagaland is a hilly state almost entirely inhabited by the Naga tribes except a few other tribes, Bengalees and Assamese, etc. The Nagas are not a composite people and speak many languages. They celebrate festivals all through the year with great pageantry and fervor. Tripura is the Northeastern state if India located by the side of Bangladesh. Tripura lacks an industriao base except a few handicrafts, handlooms and small scale industries. There are people of all religious groups. 1. The government’s laudable step of cancelling the legal tender of ₹500 and ₹1000 was welcomed by one and all except the hoarders of black money, terrorists, fake currency owners and people with vested interests. A very bold step indeed! And a step in the right direction that will wage a war against black money and corruption, This currency demonetization is a new currency or there is a change of national currency.

2. The honourable Prime minster made the announcement of scrapping of ₹500 and ₹1000 rupee note on 8 of November made the announcement of scrapping of the evening sending the whole nation in a tizzy as it was such a guarded secret that no one had a whiff of it except a selected few who were directly connected with the implementation of the drive.

3. Similar demonetization of banknote denominations has been done in the past too. In January 1946, banknotes of ₹ 1000 and ₹ 10000 rupee were withdrawn and new notes of ₹ 1000, ₹ 5000 and ₹ 10000 rupee were introduced 1954. The Janta Party coalition government had again demonetized banknotes of 1000,5000 and 10000 rupee on 16 January 1978 as a means to curb counterfeit money and black money.

4. Demonetization has many advantages, the biggest is that it helps the government to track people with huge amounts of uncountable black money stashed away in their houses or some secret hide-out which is very difficult to trace. When demonetization happens, they have to either deposit the cash in the bank and pay tax or let its value be reduced to zero. There are other advantages too. It brings to an end the illegal activities like terrorism funding, money laundering and betting.

5.Another last but definitely not the least advantage is that this money will be used for the upliftment of the society in all fields. Better infrastructure, better roads, better hospitals, and educational institutions will be seen in the long ques and unwavering faith in the demonetization drive will not go waste.
