Carl began meeting by welcoming all members, new attendees, and thanking vendors. Linda gave the treasury report of beginning and ending balances, and all transactions made. Jim Humphreys spoke about the Road-eo, the lack of attendance, and that we really needed head counts to be able to prepare. Thomas Campbell of Garland asked if the course would be set up to accommodate the larger wheel base buses. Carl said that the course had been adjusted. Linda needs the list of poster contest winners. There were dual sponsors for this meeting.
Stacey Franklin with Vertical Alliance gave a brief summary of their product – Safe Pupil. She asked the question “what if this were my student?” Being bullied? With a medical emergency? Suffering abuse or neglect? Are my drivers trained and prepared? Do I have documentation that my drivers were trained? Safe Pupil allows you to organize, train, and document for accidents, emergency or other situations at an affordable cost. Mike Horn with Mesquite says he uses the Safe Pupil system and it works very well and can be customized to each district’s needs. Greenville ISD also uses Safe Pupil and highly recommends it.
John Rubenkoenig and Brian Nail with Rush Bus Centers gave a brief summary of their products. Type C diesel engine buses are now available at a good price. They have entered into a joint venture with Blue Bird and Giarden for type A mini buses. Brian Nail talked about his decision to switch over from the truck side to the bus side of Rush Enterprises because of the good group of people he would be working with. He has 3 service centers in different locations and is here to help in any way he can, please contact him if needed. Greenville ISD gave a good word to RushBusCenters and David Knight’s Alternator Service company.
Nominations from the floor for NTAPT offices were asked, and none were given, so Carl moved to accept the slate of candidates, and announced the new officers for next year.
President – Jim Humphreys President Elect – Doug Becker Treasurer – Linda Berrier
Historian/Web Master – Joe Patterson Secretary – Rhonda Davis
Speech contest winners will be announced at the May meeting.
Mike Williams is running for Parliamentarian for TAPT. The question came up of whether the hospitality suite was going to be arranged for again at the conference. Last year’s suite was very well put together and professional, and members thanked Carl for coordinating it.
Howard Keeling of Frisco announced that he had 3 to compete in the 3rd Annual TASBT competition. Kevin Vollweiler won 1st place for Inspector and Josh Nordin won 2nd place. He encouraged other districts to send technicians and get them involved in the competition. Kevin will attend the America’s Best competition in Jasper, Indiana in September.
Pat Garcia reminded everyone about the Special Needs Road-eo being held on Saturday, April 28th. There are 4 teams from 4 districts registered so far. Forms to register are on the back table.
Lunch was served and the meeting was adjourned.
