Local Scholarships

(Sponsored by Tifton area families, businesses, and organizations)

Application Procedures:

  1. READ through the entire local scholarship packet. Read the directions, scholarship list, Part I, and Part II of the

Scholarship Application.

  1. Review the scholarship list again and select five (5) scholarships for which you may be interested and eligible. Be sure to note if additional information is needed, such as an extra application or letters of recommendation. Be sure to allow 1-2 weeks for someone to write you a letter of recommendation.
  1. Complete Part I and Part II of application (Use Ink Pen or complete it electronically). Leave the space reserved for the name of the scholarship blank if using hard copy.
  1. Make five (5) copies of your completed application cover. Be sure to keep copies for your records.
  1. Print or type the name of the specific scholarship for which you wish to apply in the top right corner of each of your four applications.
  1. Some Scholarships will require a separate application form. (These forms will be available in the counseling office. Please see Mrs. Jackson)
  1. Make sure your applications are neat and legible. Return each of your completed applications (part I, part II, and all supplemental information required) to the Counseling Department before:

TIPS:

Type your essay. Consider attaching a typed résumé to highlight academics, sports, clubs, awards, volunteer work, leadership positions, etc. You may also desire to include a transcript (See Mrs. Jackson in Counseling). Review your application and essays prior to submitting to the Counseling Department.

Do not procrastinate- start on your scholarship applications today.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sigma Alpha Omega Chapter in Partnership with WJP Foundation, Inc. Scholarship / Multiple Scholarships totaling $2500
/ TCHS Application. Minimum 2.5 GPA (at least 75 overall). Must have taken or plan to take the SAT or ACT if required by the school that you plan to attend. Submit a one page, double spaced, typed essay about you, your goals, and why you should be awarded this scholarship. Pleaseinclude any community service you have done and 2 letters of recommendation (one MUST be from a current or past teacher). Applicantsmaybe interviewed.
Bergeron-Whiddon Scholarship / $1,000 (One scholarship) / Female only. TCHS Application. Must attend ABAC; Financial need (Finalists will attend an interview)
Emory Cheek Memorial Scholarship / $700 (one scholarship) / TCHS Application. Given by the Sigma Xi, Tifton campus. For students interested in science. Must provide letter of college acceptance and a copy of your transcript. Statement (Essay) of how funds will be used.
Future Educator Award Scholarship / $250 (One Scholarship) / (See Mrs. Jackson for separate application) Scholarship will be given to a deserving high school senior whose career goal is to become an educator. Minimum GPA 80. College acceptance. Education related clubs or activities are desired.
James E. Dove Memorial Scholarship / $1,000 (One scholarship) / Essay required; Sponsored by the Tifton Natural Gas Dept. Essay topic: "The benefits of Natural Gas and how it affects your community." Attach this essay to your TCHS Local Scholarship application (Part I and II). (Immediate family of City of Tifton or ESG, Operations, Inc., employees will not be eligible for scholarship award)
Janice C. Payne Memorial Scholarship / $1,000 (one scholarship) / TCHS Application. A good student (no particular GPA) who's life has been adversely affected by a family member's battle with cancer. Write an additional essay from the application essay that outlines how your life has been affected by the family member's cancer.
Jared A. Gibbs Scholarship / $1,000 (One Scholarship) / TCHS Application. College acceptance letter from a GA public/private university.Preference given to Our Divine Saviour parishioner.
Jeff Gill Memorial Scholarship / Based on number of applicants (Usually $1,000 scholarships) / TCHS Application. Based on academic achievement and essay.
Matt Wilson Class of 1966 Scholarship / $1,000 (2 scholarships) / TCHS Application, Official transcript, College acceptance letter, and Essay stating financial need.
Mr. & Mrs. G.O.Bailey Memorial Scholarship / $1,000 (One Scholarship) / TCHS Application. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Resume (Extra-curricular and/or Job related activities). A brief statement about the student’s interest in Education. Letter of Acceptance from an accredited college/university. Unofficial Copy of SAT and/or ACT Scores.
Nineteen Seventy, Inc. Scholarship / $3,000 (One Scholarship) / (Please see Mrs. Jackson for separate application). Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay explaining career goals, demonstrated need for scholarship, biographical background information, and why you should receive this scholarship. Two (2) letters of recommendation (Not from relatives). High school transcript. Letter of acceptance or receipt of application to college or technical school.
Our Divine Saviour Scholarship / $500 (One Scholarship) / TCHS Application. Teacher recommendation form (See Mrs. Jackson). Evidence of college of acceptance; Minimum 2.5 GPA required. Unofficial copies of SAT/ACT scores. Detailed resume or list of extracurricular activities. Preference given to Our Divine Saviour parishioners, but not required.
Pamela Tenneson Memorial Scholarship / $1,500 (Two Scholarships) / Female only. TCHS App. High School transcript. A short essay (750 words max.) explaining the hardship(s) or obstacle(s) you had to overcome to stay on track for graduation and include future plans. (1) Letter of recommendation from an adult other than a family member. The Pamela Tenneson Memorial Scholarship recognizes female high school seniors who have had to overcome great physical, emotional, or social obstacles and are currently seeking a post-secondary education at a college, university, or technical school.
PLIGHT, Inc. / $500 (One scholarship) / TCHS App. One scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholarship, civic responsibility, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates must demonstrate achievement in all of the following areas: academics, community service, religious involvement, leadership, and a variety of extra-curricular activities. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate strong character and integrity. An essay expressing long term goals and the need for financial assistance, along with the college acceptance letter must be attached. A copy of the high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores must also be attached. Volunteerism with PLIGHT, Inc. activities is a plus. All documents must be typed.
PLIGHT, Inc. Leadership Development Institute / $500 (One scholarship) / TCHS App. One scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholarship, civic responsibility, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Candidates must demonstrate achievement in all of the following areas: academics, community service, religious involvement, leadership, and a variety of extra-curricular activities. Special Hearts Club Scholarship / $1,000 (One scholarship) / Acceptance letter to an accredited college. A specific essay and application packet (See Mrs. Jackson for Instructions)
TCHS Class of 1955 Scholarship / $1,000 (One scholarship) / TCHS Application. Copy of transcript. College specific GPA SAT/ACT scores, Resume or list of extra-curricular activities, financial need (essay), and letters of recommendations.
TCHS Class of 1967 Legacy Scholarship / $2,000 (One Scholarship) / TCHS application.Minimum 3.0 GPA; Official Transcript; Financial Need (Essay). (1) Community letter of recommendation; (1) Letter of recommendation from a teacher or faculty member. Include a clearly defined collegiate goal and evidence of preparation to attain this goal.
TCHS Student Council Scholarship / $250 One (2) scholarship / Must have been an active member of TCHS Students Council for 2 of the 3 years (Grades 10-12). Good academic standing (TCHS Application + Official Transcript).
The Lofton- Rutherford Merit Scholarship / $1,500 (one scholarship) / Given by Cody and Gail Lofton and David Rutherford. Performance in school shows ability and willingness to work at the college level; (Official Transcript). Write a statement (Essay) of how college will prepare the student for his/her future plans. TCHS Application.
Tiftarea Board of REALTORS / $500 (Two Scholarships) / (See Mrs. Jackson to obtain separate application). Copy of the college letter of acceptance. Must have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Complete a 500 word typed essay on "The importance of Home Ownership".
Tift County Young Farmers / TBA / Sponsored by Ag Georgia Farm Credit. Senior Ag student must see Mr. Nichols or Mrs. Cook for an application.
Tifton Elks Lodge scholarship / $500 (One Scholarship) / Applicants will be judged on the basis of the TCHS Application, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, school and community activities, character, need, and essay on long term goals.
Tifton Junior Woman's Club Leadership Scholarship / $1000 (one to four scholarships) / TCHS Application. Applicants must be female, attending college/technical school in the fall following graduation, and submit an essay that details how they exemplify service and leadership in their community.
Tifton Kiwanis Club of Tifton Scholarship / $1,000 (three scholarships) / (Separate application-See Mrs. Jackson or Mrs. Scott Rm 104) Only to Key club members. Letter of acceptance to an accredited college or university, have a minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Submit SAT or ACT scores. Submit a resume and describe how important volunteerism and civic clubs are to you. Submit two reference forms. Submit a 250-650 word essay similar to the common college application process including why volunteerism in the community is important to you. Submit an official transcript (See Mrs. Jackson for transcript)
Tifton Optimist Club Scholarship / $750 (one scholarship) / TCHS application. Academic achievement (official transcript); dedication to community service.College acceptance letter.
The Raymond Merritt Memorial Scholarship / $750 (one scholarship) / Given by Optimist Club to student whose parent is currently employed in public safety (police, fire dept. EMS, etc.),TCHS application. Academic achievement (official transcript) and college acceptance letter.
Tifton Sertoma Club Scholarship / $1,000 (two scholarships) / Good academic standing (Official Transcript); SAT/ACT Test Scores. Extra-curricular activities; Civic/ community involvement; leadership potential. Must attend ABAC; (Essay) Financial need will be a consideration. TCHS Application.
Zeta Phi Beta Ermagene Battle Memorial / $500 (One Scholarship) / Graduating senior of accredited high school; 2.5 cumulative GPA; verifiable SAT or ACT scores; acceptance at accredited college or university; TCHS Application.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc Delta Lambda Zeta Chapter / $500 (One Scholarship) / Graduating senior of accredited high school; 2.5 cumulative GPA; verifiable SAT or ACT scores; acceptance at accredited college or university; TCHS Application.
Each Scholarship sponsor determines requirements and selects winners.
