1 / Write a poem or song lyrics based upon the book. This should be at least one double-spaced typed page. / Develop a timeline of the events of the story. Illustrate 3 of the 10 events you list. / Game: Design a game based on a book or story that could be played by two or more people. This could be a question game like “Trivial Pursuit” that uses settings or events.
2 / Compare a character from the bookwith someone you know or a character from another story. This should be at least one double-spaced typed page. / Make a poster advertising your book or story. Your poster must include title, author, book cover, synopsis, your review, and age group recommendation. / Mom or Dad’s Journal:Select mom or dad’s point of view. Create a front cover for this journal and then add at least four journal entries that retell key events from the story from their POV. Each journal entry should be at least ½ page.
3 / Create and write a different ending to the story. This should be at least one double-spaced typed page. / Make a comic strip of your favorite chapter. Your comic must include 10 squares with colorful illustrations and dialogue or captions. / Story Bag: Find 4 bags, and label each bag with a character’s name. Then select 4-5 items that would be significant to that person and put them in the bag. Finally, write a paragraph for each bag explaining your reasoning for why you included these items with this character.
4 / Write a get well soon card to Jeffrey from the point of view of a character of your choice. This should look like an actual card with a note to Jeffrey of at least 7 sentences. Be creative with your card…make it look like a card you would buy at the store. / Make a magazine collage of at least 15 items or words that represent the book. Type a half page explanation of the collage and explain why you chose the items/words. / Getting to Know Me Poster- Select one of the main characters from the novel and create a poster about him/her. Include at least five pictures (use your imagination) and five captions that explain why these pictures are linked to your character. Think about physical characteristics, personality traits, relationships with other characters, actions/events that involve the character, interests of the character, etc. when selecting pictures. In addition, your poster needs three meaningful quotes that this character said. (Pick quotes from the book that help to develop the character’s personality- put quotation marks around these words.)
5 / Write a letter recommending the book to a friend or relative. This should be at least one double-spaced typed page. / Create a one-pager. Remember Edgar Allen Poe? Include things such as a picture border, title, author, acrostic poem or other poetry, character traits of the major characters, a large illustration portraying a major event, and more! Remember to cover the entire page. / Create a soundtrack for the book- Select 4 songs that match the mood/tone of this book (please pick school appropriate songs). Print out song title, artist name, and the lyrics. Highlight the words or phrases from the song that made you connect with this text. Make sure that this song connects back to the emotions/ideas in this book. For each song, write at least one paragraph that summarizes why these lyrics made you connect to this text. If possible, bring the songs so we can jam to it!
