Three Swords League 2013/14

The Three Swords League is considered the ‘friendly league’ run by the Essex Met Committee and gives clubs the chance to mix players from different divisions in the Essex Met League. Although always competitive, and run under almost all the same rules, it has a more relaxed and friendly feel to it.

The League began for the second year at the indoor facility at Sporthouse Arena in Dagenham, now a GLL run venue, which was built in Mayesbrook Park, Dagenham as an Olympics training venue. The games were played together each week at 10.15am, ensuring an early get up and leaving players free for the rest of the day for other commitments with no weather or cancellation worries and all the benefits of playing indoors in a controlled temperature and on sprung flooring. The format for the league had all 10 teams playing each other once in the first round of matches.

In order to save costs the league then moved to Redbridge Leisure Centre. The second rounds were played there at 12.00 at the request of the centre, with teams split into 2 divisions, the top five teams scheduled to play each other once, as were the bottom five, ensuring all teams had competitive games. Unfortunately, this year a number of these games were cancelled, possibly due to extending the dates to ensure good weather or the late start. As a result I am proposing to play just the one round of matches for next season.

Congratulations to the winning team Pettits and runners up Ilford in Tier 1 and also to winners Aeonian and runners up Island in Tier 2. Thanks go to all involved for making every Saturday an enjoyable start to the weekend. I hope we will see you all return for next season.
