Green Home Design

Power point project

To help you organize and understand what you are about to undertake you will need to do research on green design. Their are many methods on cutting edge green building techniques and energy efficientideas out in the design and construction world today. Take on this project as if you were goingto sell your work to a prospective client. Explore the Internet for ideas. Talk with your classmates and ask your instructorfor feedback. Look for inspiration all around you. You are at thecenterof a green energy revolution that is very exciting today. I hope you make this a project you will not forget.

Your research will be made into a power point. This will be your sales tool for the “perspective client.” It will guide yourwork onthe green house design project. You will need to make a minimum of 35 slides and a maximum of 45 slides to fully explaining your house plan starting with the environment you are planning to build in.

The power point must describe the following elements and must have supporting pictures that also describe what you are trying to express in your presentation. There must be at least one slide for each of the following categoriesunless otherwise noted.

Your name must be the first slide along with your projects title and the type of house construction you intend to use.

Green Design Categories

1.Appearance (minimum 3 slides)

2.Structural capability

3.Thermal mass (2 slides)

4.Insulation(minimum 2 slides)

5.Energy uses and power systems (minimum 5 slides)

6.Durability and moisture resistance

7.Sustainability (Environmental impacts)

8.Water systems

9.Local materials availability and cost(minimum 2 slides)

10.Construction process, how is it made! (Minimum 4 slides)

11.Floor plan and elevations (your drawn plan min. 5 slides)

12.Justification for your design (minimum 5 slides)

13.Works cited including web sites.

You nowhave two optionsthat are to accompany your power point.

Option 1

Verbal Presentation: Your presentation must be accompanied by an outline paper with talking points. Talking points will guide what you will say about each slide? This can also be used in your power point slides. You will present your slide presentation later in the class so do a good job of describing your house and all of its wonderful energy efficient ideas. Try to find pictures to help with your design ideas and be sure to include short word statements on each slide! YOU SHOULD HAVE A FEW SLIDES THAT TALK TO US IN WORDS TOO. Pictures are also very important. You will need to find a balance. At least 70% of your presentation must have a picture on the slide. The more the better.Think about trying to sell your house design to a potential client. This will help you talk to your audience.

Option 2

Paper:Write a five page paper to include a description of each point and idea you are making in your power point. This paper is NOT just an outline of your power point. You will write about each point or your wonderful energy efficient ideas. You will also need to summarize and justify your design in the final pages of your paper. Think about trying to sell your house design to a potential client. This will help you write to your audience. You must have 4 to 5 pages, double spaced, in 12pt. type. No half pages! And you will need to site any sources you used on the internet or in print publications at the end of your paper.

Good luck,
