The Pacific Disaster Center (PDC), in collaboration with ThoughtWeb, Inc. of Australia, has created a website site ( to facilitate information sharing and collaboration regarding the ongoing relief efforts in the Indian Ocean Tsunami Disaster.

The Purpose

The purpose of is to help people:

  • To be aware of what is happening across the whole region;
  • To be aware of how the various needs evolve on a day to day basis;
  • To collaborate and share ideas to assist recovery; and
  • To support effective and efficient coordination and decision-making.

  • Non Government agencies;
  • Logistic support personnel;
  • Strategic Planners;

Ability to collaborate with others

This site provides you with the ability to share with others (people and organizations) information that will assist with the relief and recovery operations. Other interested parties will be automatically alerted to the availability of the information you provide. Similarly, you will be notified of information provided by others that is relevant to your particular interests. The information will be referenced/cross-referenced and prioritized based on each individual’s areas of interest.

Minimal technology needs

If you have access to a desktop computer with a web browser and communications line either LAN based or connected via broadband or dial-up telephone line then you have all that is required to have access to this system.

This Emergency Management and Recovery System is hosted in a secure/protected computer center.

Future Developments

Your interaction with will evolve as the needs in the impacted region change:
Phase ONE: The initial emergency response to save and protect lives and to survey damage (Current)
Phase TWO: make sure the survivors have essentials including water, food and shelter (Urgent)
Phase THREE: The long-haul - as the world starts to forget - relocation of the homeless to secure housing, restoration of their self-sufficiency, and the rehabilitation of their livelihoods.
