THOMAS’ TEAM NOTES

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Remind your child to work hard and listen everyday. Progress reports will go home on Thursday. Please sign and return on Friday.

On every daily grade and test students will show their work. You can look on Edulastic.com to see what they missed. We are practicing working the problems out on a separate sheet of paper because that is what they will have to do on the MAP test. I will send home all graded papers; they will be located in the pocket in the back of their binder. There is no need to sign these and return them because everyone has access to power school. Students can keep the graded papers at home.

**Don’t forget to join Remind 101, just text @thomaste to 470-428-7870. If you have not sent $50 fees, please do so as soon as you can.

MATH-

**Everyday in math will begin with a daily review (students will put this in their binder) and they will have a daily grade on the questions on the back of the daily review on Friday, voc. words, and a short video of the days lesson. This week students will be taking timed practices on their multiplication facts. Students will keep these in their binder, so please look at them to see how they are doing.

**Students have been making a multiplication book over the past several weeks. This includes “tricks” to help students learn their multiplication facts. This needs to remain in their binder until after Christmas break. This week we will add 7’s and 8’s. Students can practice at home on Multiplication.com and Aplusmath.com.

Mon.- p. 116-119 Students will use arrays and number patterns to multiply by 10 and 100. Students will complete reteaching 5-1 and 5-2 and check with teacher. HW- Practice 5-1 and 5-2

Tues.- p.120-121 Students will break apart numbers (Distributive Property) and use arrays to multiply 2-digit by 1-digit numbers. Students will practice on dry erase boards. Students will complete reteaching 5-3 and check with teacher. HW- Practice 5-3

Wed.- Students will complete a daily grade on (5-1)-(5-3), pattern of multiplication, story problems using multiplication, factors, multiples, rounding, and distributive property and will go over it with teacher. HW-none

Thurs.- p. 122-125 Students will using estimation (rounding) to multiply numbers mentally. Students will practice on dry erase boards. Students will complete reteaching 5-5 check with teacher. HW- Practice 5-5

Fri.- p. 26-127 Students will check for reasonableness by making sure their calculations asked and by using estimation to make sure the calculation was performed correctly. Students will illustrate story problem in practice notebook and complete reteaching 5-6 and check with teacher. HW- Practice 5-6

Science-

Mon.-Students will add a foldable on Photosynthesis to their science notebook. HW- study flash cards and 2 foldables

Tues.-Students will view Magic School Bus “Gets Planted”. Study flash cards and 2 foldables

Wed- Students willwrite a paragraph on the Life Cycle of a Plant. HW- study flash cards and 2 foldables

Thurs.-Students will complete AR test on The Magic School Bus “Plants Seed” and daily grade on plant voc. words. HW- study flashcards, foldables, and daily grade for test tomorrow.

Fri.- Students will complete test on Plants.

Tutorial: I will be reteaching students who made below a B on the Unit 4 Test Wednesday. Other students will be having 5 questions on quizizz. These questions will be a spiral review of everything we have covered so far. They will work them and then we will go over them together.

Math

Common core standards covered in Unit 4:

4.OA.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operation. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and strategies including rounding.

4.NBT.4 Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and one-digit number, and adding two-digit number and a multiple of 10, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or relationship between addition and subtraction, relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.

Common core standards covered in Unit 1:

4.OA.1 Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison

4.OA.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison

4.OA.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.

4.OA.4 Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recongnize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors.

Science
