Middle School Orientation

Dear Middle School Students and Parents:

Middle School Orientation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014. Students MUST be accompanied by a PARENT. Parent signatures are required on numerous SRTMS documents and students will not receive supplies/textbooks/class schedule without signatures from all parties. Students will purchase two locker locks ($7.00) (locks MUST be purchased from SRTMS and can be used for 6th, 7th and 8th grade years), science lab fees ($5.00), Chrome Book (all 6th grade AND new 7th and 8th grade) - $400.00 one-time fee), and Activity Card ($30.00 optional), sign technology acceptable use agreement, and pick-up textbooks, locker assignments, and a class schedule. Please be sure to attend your grade level’s assigned time and follow the orientation signs upon your arrival:

8th Grade - 9:00-10:00 7th Grade - 10:00-11:00 6th Grade - 11:00-12:00

Reminder to MS Parents. Any parent that has not previously registered for Zangle Parent Connect (SRTMS’ electronic reporting system) is strongly recommended to do so and must bring a valid form of picture identification to orientation. Zangle Parent Connect provides a parent and student daily access to: grades, discipline, attendance, cafeteria accounts, etc.

Reminder to MS Parents & Students. Supply Lists are posted on the SRTMS website. When purchasing a backpack for the upcoming school year, remember that it MUST fit in your locker. BACKPACKS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOMS. No exceptions. Rolling backpacks are discouraged as they do not fit inside lockers with all of a student’s required textbooks and supplies. NETBOOKS / CHROME BOOKS MUST BE CARRIED IN A CASE AT ALL TIMES. Cases are not included with the device. The middle school staff suggests a small, padded netbook case (not a backpack) that travels easily from class to class. Netbook cases must accommodate a computer with a 10 inch screen or a Chrome Book with a 12 inch screen. The case should have a pocket to carry power supply and headphones. The power supply and headphones MUST accompany a fully charged device to school on a daily basis.

Incoming 6th Grade Students are invited to attend “Middle School Boot Camp” from 12:00-3:00 immediately following orientation. Topics to be covered will be: meeting the 6th grade teaching staff, introduction to Google.docs, correctly organizing student binders and lockers, and an explanation of middle school rules and procedures. Students MUST bring their recommended supplies for the upcoming year in order for this event to be a success. This event will provide an opportunity to get the year started on the right foot. Lunch, games and prizes will be provided. We strongly encourage all incoming 6th graders to attend this event.

I look forward to seeing you all at orientation on Friday, August 22nd.

Eagle Pride!
