- The Medicines Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s Blood Safety and Quality Regulations (2005), and the Trust’s Blood Transfusion Policy and Procedures stipulate that any member of staff involved in the ‘Collection of Blood Products and Components should have a yearly update. This is nothing new as previously this was being done via ISKILLS.
There is now a new Moodle Learning Presentation ‘Collection of Blood Products and Components from the Satellite Fridge’, which you are required to complete on a yearly basis if you collect blood from the Satellite Fridge from these locations: Haem/Onc day Unit, Ward 19 BHH, Labour Ward, and theatre. Staff that collect blood from these locations (Midwives, nurses, theatre staff, ODPs, ODAs and HCAs) must complete the Moodle training to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately collect blood products and components from the Satellite fridge.
Please follow this link:
Please note that you are still required to complete your face to face competency assessment in the collection of blood with the Transfusion Practitioners on a 3 yearly basis. The module can be found in MOODLE, Mandatory Training for Blood Transfusions.

Leadership
The Leadership Role in Managing and Improving Services (Level 6/Level 7)
Effective leaders are the lynchpin of high quality, safe patient care. Turbulent times require leaders with complex skills, not just in the boardroom or in higher echelons of management, but also those at the interface with patients, where quality is defined by what actually happens to them and their families. This programme will help you to develop resilience and fulfill your potential to become an exceptional leader, well-prepared and confident in your ability to confront the issues of each day. During the programme you will gain an awareness of strategic and operational requirements when planning service delivery and an understanding of why financial and performance data is essential, to effectively enhance service provision. The programme also focusses on innovation and how this can be used to promote development, to facilitate service improvement. Participants will undertake a change project of their choice during the duration of the study and on successful completion, will gain 30 credits at either Level 6 or Level 7.

Everyone who was nominated last year was a winner, demonstrating the qualities we admire in excellent healthcare leaders, also making it near-impossible to judge finalists!
How to Nominate Follow this link to nominate: select your category. You can nominate others and also self-nominate. So what’s stopping you? Help our excellent staff get the recognition they deserve! Closing date for nominations is Monday 7th September 2015.
