Head Chef

Job Description

This role reports to the Head of Primary Years.

Main Responsibilities are:

  • To plan, organise and direct all aspects of food service, ordering, preparation and presentation, etc.
  • Ordering of food, Stocktaking and completion of necessary documentation.
  • Check and record all food and other goods received, and where necessary, reporting any discrepancy or quality defect.
  • General supervision of kitchen premises and staff to ensure that safe and hygienic working practices are undertaken and maintained.
  • To assist with the management of staff hours to keep within a staffing budget.
  • To assist with the management of food costs to keep within the food cost budget.
  • To assist at the service times on the servery, or whenever directed, to the standard required and to promote a friendly atmosphere.
  • To assist in the preparation of the Service Counters and load with plates and meals, as necessary, and to ensure sufficient supplies throughout the service period.
  • To ensure that all regulations regarding Hygiene, Safety and Cleanliness are complied with in tasks undertaken (HS and COSHH).
  • To undertake all aspects in cleaning equipment (light and heavy), floors, fixtures and fittings, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glassware, etc.
  • To check the menu daily and manage any insufficiencies.
  • To ensure the highest standard of personal hygiene and cleanliness and a smart appearance is maintained.
  • To relieve and assist from time to time with duties, as requested.
  • Ensure all food safety administration is completed.
  • Report any defect regarding premises or equipment, as required.

Infrequent Duties

  • To assist at any special functions, which may occur outside normal working hours.
  • To report all customer comments and take some remedial action if at all possible.
  • To report immediately, any incidents or accidents (which must be recorded in the Accident Book), fire theft, loss, damage, unfit food or other irregularities and take such action as may be appropriate or possible.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Primary Years / Principal.
