October 2016 Newsletter

October’s theme

This month our theme isDown on the Farm. In the Farm Unit, we will be learning about animals on the farm and we will talk about things that grow on farms. We will also be concentrating on COLORS seen on the farm. We will be painting with corn, counting kernels of corn and having delicious farm inspired snacks. We’re going to have some good old country time fun!

Medical Forms Needed

PLEASE make sure to turn in all medical forms as soon as possible. We are required by state licensing laws to have these forms on file.

School Pictures

School pictures will take place on Wednesday the 19th and Thursday the 20th of October. You should have received an envelope from your teacher that needs to be filled out and returned. This is our third year with this photographer and we have been very happy with her!

Fire and Tornado Drills

We had our first fire drill and tornado drill. We are required to practice a fire drill each month and a tornado drill for the first three months. One of the teachers sets off the smoke alarm and the children line up and go to the entrance of our school. We did a great job getting to the lobby quickly and safely. Tornado drills have the children go to the basement with their teachers. All went smoothly.

Burlington Fire Department

Burlington Fire Department will visit us during the month of October. Students will learn about fire safety and get to see the fire truck. Ask your child to tell you about stop, drop and roll.

Winter Clothes

Please help us identify your child’s coat, hat, boots and mittens by putting your child’s name or initials on the inside label. With the change in seasons and outerwear, some children cannot recognize their new coat and some children own the same style coat, which makes it more confusing for the children and the teachers. Thank you.

Change of Clothes

Please bring a change of clothing, appropriate for the weather to leave at school. Many students have shorts and short sleeved tee shirts as their extra clothing.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Look for the sign-up sheet outside your child’s classroom for dates and times your child’s teacher will be available. Conferences will be during the week of October 26th-30th.

Corn, Sunflowers, Gourds, and Pumpkins

We are in need of some dry corn on the cob, sunflowers, gourds, and pumpkins for our fall celebration in our classrooms. Please see your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Extended Care

Noah’s Ark offers before and after school care. Extended care runs from 7:00am-5:00pm. Please consider this option if your child is in need of extended care. We offer very competitive rates in a warm educational setting. Attending a day or two per week is a great opportunity to expand your child’s social skills. We do have openings available at this time. There is more information listed in the Parent Handbook about this program which is on our website If you have any additional questions, please talk to a teacher or call the office.

Sentry Receipts

Just a reminder that we collect sales receipts with “Funds for Friends” stickers from Burlington Sentry. If you or someone you know shops there, please ask for the “Funds for Friends” sticker to be put on the back of the receipt and bring them to the specially marked container on the parents’ cart near the parents’ bulletin board. We will receive 1% of the total receipts. These totals really add up and have helped us keep our tuition rates down. So please continue to save receipts for us!

Scholastic Book Orders due October 21st

There is no tax and no shipping charges on these orders Also, our school gets one bonus point for every dollar spent on the orders. We use these bonus points to get free materials for our classrooms, such as puzzles, big books, puppets, hardcover books, cassettes, ect. You and your child can enjoy the items you order at home and your child will have fun with the materials we order using the bonus points here at school. Please write our checks directly to Scholastic.

Substitute teachers

We are in need of some new substitute teachers! Please see any of the teachers for more information if you are interested, we would love to have you!

A Word from our Teachers

“Howdy Folks! October is here and that brings Mrs. Pum’s class down on the farm. This month we will be working on our colors, letters and numbers while having fun around the farm. Some special fun will be milking a cow, playing with pumpkins, and singing to some favorite country tunes! It is bound to be a great time!” –Mrs. Pum

“My class will be sponge painting leaves, making pink paper plate pigs, marble painting acorns and feather painting owls. Please feel free to come in the room when dropping off and look at all the art projects decorating the room. We have started working on the alphabet with both writing it and learning the sounds that each letter makes. Red, orange, yellow, green and brown are some of our favorite fall colors!” –Mrs. Dorn

October Special Snacks

They will be mixing red and yellow frosting on a leaf cookie on Monday October 17th and Tuesday the 18th. Farm Breakfast is Thursday October 27th.

Just a few notes:

  • When bringing snack, we need enough for 30 children, but the portions should be child sized. For example, ½ a string cheese is perfect, and half the serving size on the side of whatever box is good. Also, check the snack calendar on the parent board for ideas on snacks and to see what has already been brought in.
  • Snow is coming and Winter Clothes will be needed soon!
  • School starts at 8:25am, watch for the Noah’s Ark Flag in the window! (Not the 4K Bright Beginnings Flag that is hung up at 8:15am.)
  • If your child is sick, make sure to call the office at 262-767-9095 to let their teacher know!
  • Also, call and let us know if there is a change in pick up plan so we can accommodate everyone’s different needs.

Happy Fall!

The Teachers of Noah’s Ark
